Introducing - CAMTA TEAM 2017...
Look who's going to Quito!
CAMTA Team 2017 has been formed and members are excited to start planning for the Mission in Quito next February/March.

We've assembled a great group of medical professionals and lay people - some who have been with us from the beginning of CAMTA 16 years ago, some who return again and again, and some who will enjoy this amazing experience for the first time.

Click here to see who's going.

Each team member must raise $3000 before January 8th, 2017. It's easy to donate towards the fundraising efforts of your family member or friend. Just click his or her name on the list, then click the   bar on the fundraising page.

... and our new EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

We are happy and excited to welcome Veronica Kong as the Executive Director of CAMTA. A native Edmontonian and University of Alberta graduate, Veronica has worked for the past ten years as a management consultant with global and national advisory firms in Australia and Canada. Before that, she coordinated and implemented international marketing missions for executives and senior management at the Government of Alberta.

Veronica is an avid explorer who has a passion for travel and thrives on new ideas and relationships. She plans to use her creativity and vibrancy to work alongside CAMTA's dedicated board, volunteers and partners to assist and bring hope to those in need of medical care and public health education in developing countries.

Veronica will be introduced to Team 2017 at our first  meeting this week and will start 'learning the ropes" in October. She'll be joining Team 2017 in Quito in the spring to get a first-hand look at how our Missions are organized and carried out.
Finding just the right person to lead CAMTA into the future took a lot of time, skill and knowledge. We are grateful to Michael Moreau and Concord Consulting for helping us to define the roles and responsibilities of our Executive Director and for helping us zero in on the traits needed for this role. As one member of the hiring committee commented:  "...  in a large part, the hiring of Veronica is the result of (Michael's) hard work, expertise and dedication to CAMTA. Thank you, (Michael) for helping make it happen. I am confident we have made the right choice".
COA President's Award for Excellence
Marc and Barb Moreau, with President Dr. Robin Richards
Earlier this summer, CAMTA co-founders, Marc and Barb Moreau accepted the Canadian Orthopaedic Association's  2016 Presidential Award of Excellence in recognition of CAMTA's global contributions to the delivery of orthopedic care. In their acceptance speech, the Moreaus gave heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to the growth and success of the Missions over the years.
"There are so many people who have made this mission what it is. Our partners in Ecuador, our patients from whom we have learned the true meaning of dignity and gratitude. Team members over the years - who always hit the ground running and worked together to deliver the best care possible. Volunteers in Edmonton who have donated their legal advice, IT expertise, website and newsletter management, warehouse space and so much more."
A few more thank yous!
One of the major jobs for any CAMTA mission is making travel arrangements for up to 100 volunteers. Team members come from across Canada and the US, and from as far away as Australia. For the past two years,  Rhonda  Sveahun of Paull Travel  has helped get us all to Quito on the right day and home when our Week is over. We are grateful for her professionalism, flexibility and good humour when the going gets tough!

Mark Fedorak  has been our go-to computer guy in Edmonton for many years. His expertise in setting up our laptops, printers and label makers has helped to make our administration work run smoothly. Mark, with his company Xanatek  is in the process of updating our database for the 2017 Mission. T hank you, Mark!

Wendy Read  has organized our last three casino events and has joined the CAMTA team in Quito for three Missions as a layperson. Our most recent casino under Wendy's leadership in May raised just over $75,000 for CAMTA. She also worked the casino both days! Thank you, Wendy, for your dedication.

A big thank you to Janet Edmondson from the entire team for the eloquent and entertaining way in which she keeps us all up-to-date with CAMTA news through our newsletters, blog, Facebook posts and the CAMTA website.
