Action for Ageing is a toolkit for organizing innovative events on the World report on ageing and health or on ageing and health in general. The toolkit describes interactive formats to supplement formal speeches and presentations, provides resources (e.g. infographics, fact sheets, presentation slides) and gives tips for planning and documenting events.

Register for GeriActors Artist Teacher Training! Participants will learn the theory and practice of community-based theatre with particular reference to seniors. This program is perfect for actors, educators, healthcare providers, recreation professionals, and more. 

At the end of the Training Program those interested will have the opportunity to lead, in pairs, a workshop in Performance Storytelling, for which they will be paid. This 3-week residency is a great opportunity to put into practice what you learned in the training program.

Rethink Ageing will bring together delegates to learn, share, and brainstorm the key actions for advancing the pillars of the National Seniors Strategy (NSS) which was released in October 2015. For each pillar, there will be an expert panel, followed by related breakout sessions for presentations and interactive discussion.

Duties:

• The Volunteer/Member Services Coordinator will recruit, interview and train volunteers to work at our front desk, kitchen and cashier positions, and other events as required.
• This person will also act as a member liaison to our membership by helping members understand the benefits of membership as well as take advantage of all the benefits.
• Additional duties may include working on the monthly newsletter as well as internal communication.

Qualifications: A Bachelors degree in a human services discipline would be an asset, but is not mandatory.

Age Friendly Edmonton's Information and Communications Working Group intends to create an Age Friendly Information and Communication Network.

The Network Animator will support the Network Leadership Team in the creation and operations of the Information and Communication Network. The focus of the role will be:

• Engagement and promotion activities in support of the development of the Network
• Gathering information on options for Network governance and operations to develop a sustainable structure for the Network
• Development and execution of a project plan based on the ICN Transition Plan
• Providing administration and logistic support to the Network as required

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree, and/or equivalent work experience, that would be the foundation for the skills and knowledge required to execute the responsibilities for the position, including but not limited to: project management; research and information acquisition; communications and/or marketing and/or public relations; and event planning. An understanding of Community Development is an asset. A valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle with 2 million dollars of liability insurance is also required.

Responsibilities:

• Identify and assess the needs of isolated and at-risk seniors (55 +) in North East Edmonton and provide outreach services.
• Provide information and referral, advocacy, crisis intervention and emotional support to clients accessing the outreach program
• Support existing Health & Wellness programs and services at the centre
• Assist Outreach Coordinator in planning and implementing outreach programs and activities or events (such as information workshops or support groups)
• Facilitate outreach partnerships throughout the community
• Maintain accurate current records of all outreach clients and contacts

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Undergraduate degree in Social Work or related Human Services field. Consideration will be given to those who have a diploma in a related field along with previous experience in working in human services.
• Familiarity with the Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice
• Excellent communications, assessment and interviewing skills
• Knowledge of community services and resources pertaining to older adults
• Evidence of good professional boundaries
• A vehicle and valid operator's license is required
• The successful candidate will be required to obtain a satisfactory Police Information Check Certificate including Vulnerable Sector Check from the police agency in the jurisdiction in which they reside
