Did you catch me on Good Company? 

I was interviewed recently on Good Company, a television show in Peoria.  As part of Women in Business month, they were interviewing women who own businesses in a male dominated field.  It was fun to discuss how I got started in the technology field. 

I will write a blog post with more details and tips for girls wanting to get started in technology.  I think a good start would be to attend our upcoming WordCamp.  (see below)

This One Time at WordCamp.... 

I recently gave a presentation at WordCamp Nashville.  It was a big deal to me to be a part of a WordCamp. I've attended many of them but never presented.  WordCamps are educational events put on by the WordPress Foundation.  WordPress is the software we use to build websites so you can manage them yourself.  It's an honor to be a part of the community. My presentation will be on WordPress TV so I'll post that link here soon.

The Peoria WordPress meetup is putting on a WordCamp in Peoria.  There isn't a lot of information right now as it's still in the planning stages but you can sign up for updates here.

Join Web Tech and be a sponsor for the event.  If you want to connect with a variety of people in the local community, this is your place. 

WordCamps are a great way to learn more about WordPress and meet with others who are using the software.  I'll keep you posted on developments as I get them.

The difference between the computer store and the web side of the business is I don't have to be here.  I can work from anywhere.  However, the computer store relies on local customers.

Now that Google is emphasizing geography in its search results, and customers are increasingly turning to web directories instead of printed Yellow Pages guides, finding local customers is easier than ever with online marketing.

My networking group, The Greater Peoria Area Coffee Club (GPACC) is having a social on November 3rd from 4pm to 8pm.  It will be held at the Wingate Hotel on Route 91.
