God delivers the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. God uses Moses to lead the Israelites toward the Promised Land. Instead of celebrating God's deliverance, the Israelites grumble and complain. The children of Israel make Moses life miserable they grumble against him night and day. God tells Moses that he will provide for his people. And God reveals to Moses that the people are not grumbling against him. The people are grumbling against God. See Exodus 16 to read the details.
How often, when we grumble against the church and church leadership are we actually grumbling against God? The complaint I hear during stewardship drive is, all the church does is talk about money. Your complaint is not against the church but against God. God, in his Word, talks about how we are to manage our money. He talks about being good stewards. He talks about giving our first fruits. He talks about using the resources he gives us to pay the pastor. He talks about using the resources he gives us to care for the poor and needy. Then he tells us not to fall in love with our financial resources. When I hear people say: I am not coming to church because all they talk about is money. The problem is not with the church, but with God.
The grumbling is: I do not like those people in the church. The scribes and Pharisees leveled these charges against Jesus. Jesus says that he came to seek and save the lost. He says: come to me all you who are week and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Jesus came to save sinners. We all come encumbered with the weight of sin. Jesus forgives sinners. If you grumble against those who are worshiping with you, is not your grumbling against God?
The grumbling is: I have a problem with someone in the church. Jesus says we are to forgive. Jesus says if we have grievance against our brother we should talk to them one on one. Paul says: do not let the sun go down on your anger. Jesus says blessed be the peacemaker for they shall see God. If you harbor anger against someone in the church, and you are unwilling to reconcile. Then you problem is not with them. You problem is with God.
Jesus tells his disciples to love one another. This is the new command he gives. Peter writes: that we should love deeply because love covers a multitude of sins. People should be drawn our church because they see the love we have for each other. We should spread the love of Christ into our community. This is challenging. When we grumble against the church, we grumble against God.
Nothing can make us angry unless we let it. When we get angry and grumble against the church and the church leadership. That might be reasonable. But w hen we are unwilling talk to the person who troubles us and unwilling to reconcile our problem is with God.
You are forgiven and loved to forgive and love. Live Christ. Share his love.

We would like to say "thank you" to all of those who came to support our youth group Biscuits and Gravy this past Sunday. We had a great turnout and some great fellowship as well. We raised $228 towards our district fundraising goal! So thank you very much!! We truly appreciate your donations! But please remember this group cannot function without your valued help and support of us!

Operation Christmas Child
Youth Group is sponsoring Operation Christmas Child Shoes Packing Party Potluck Challenge for our October/November Servant Event
What is the shoebox challenge? It began at Herschend Family Entertainment in 2011 and has resulted in over 1 million shoeboxes collected through churches for needy children around the world. Their theme parks and attractions offer complimentary tickets to churches to encourage them to pack the shoeboxes. The more shoeboxes packed the more tickets a church can earn. In 2014, they began inviting others in the entertainment industry to join in using their influence to help grow the cause of Operation Christmas Child. Silver Dollar City is honored to participate in the Challenge this year.
To meet this challenge with a minimum requirement we as a congregation must pack either as a group or individually 25 shoeboxes. If we meet that, we get 3 tickets to Silver Dollar City. These tickets will be drawn for by those participating in the shoebox packing party on November 8. Your names will be entered in the drawing. To get another free ticket, we must pack another 25 more boxes. The youth group has decided to host a Christmas Shoebox Potluck Packing Party on Sunday, November 8 after service. We will have lunch together and pack our boxes together. The youth group will have 36 plastic boxes ready go. We just need your help filling the shoeboxes. We will have collection boxes in the narthex beginning October 11 for our first big collection drive. So to make it easy here is a schedule we came up with:
- Sunday October 9 - SCHOOL SUPPLIES: Pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
- Sunday, October 16 - HYGIENE ITEMS: Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.
- Sunday, October 23 - TOYS: Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch,® toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky,® etc.
- Sunday, November 6 - OTHER: T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries)
DO NOT INCLUDE: Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out- of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
We will be collecting items from the congregation again until Sunday, November 13th. Operation Christmas Child pamphlets will be available soon if you would like to participate. We will also have prayer bookmarks and your prayers are essential to the work of Operation Christmas Child, so please join us during National Collection Week Nov. 16-23. The youth group will then deliver the shoeboxes to the drop off site in Louisburg on Monday, November 16. The goal this year is to collect 9.8 million shoebox gifts from the United States and nine other countries. During this collection time, we ask you to pray for the people packing the boxes, the volunteers who will be collecting, processing, and delivering the gifts, and for the children receiving them - thank you!

Save a Label and help us raise money for our youth group!
The Save-A-Label program is an extremely successful program, which helps non-profit organizations raise money. Currently, there are over 13,000 non-profit groups that participate in the program. These groups earn $.03 for each Best Choice UPC symbol redeemed. It's easy, just save labels for cash. Just save the labels of Best Choice products. Be sure to save the UPC portion (proof of purchase). Our youth group will earn $30 in cash for each bundle of 1,000 UPC's sent in. We will have a box in the narthex to begin collecting the labels within the next few weeks. So please keep your eyes open for the label box and help us raise some funds!
