A Message from the Superintendent
 Dear Lovejoy Community:
I hope this finds you having a great week and enjoying a bit of cooler weather. There is a considerable amount of great news to report this week.
Thank you to our Lovejoy Community for their support of the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools. On North Texas Giving Day, our community donated over $100,000 in 24 hours to the Foundation. Your support of the Foundation directly enhances the experiences of students in our classrooms, and is very much appreciated.
In the story of the year opinion/editorial category, junior
Nick Smith
is one of 10 finalists for his personal column titled "I didn't know."
The story of the year contest was open to entries from print newspaper, yearbooks and online media, while the multimedia story of the year contest was open only to online media.

The LHS Tennis Team is experiencing a great season. They played their last district match yesterday, beating Mesquite Poteet 18-1. They are 93-2 over the last 5 district matches, with an overall record of 8-1. Their only loss was to the #1 ranked team in the state, Highland Park.

Congratulations to the Jazz Band members who performed at All-Region Jazz last week. LHS band members made up one-fourth of the All Region Band, with LHS landing 5 of the sought-after 20 positions available in the group. The following students performed:
Jack Supan: Guitar (1st Chair)
Ethan Etchieson: Vibes (1st Chair)
Garrett Martin: Trombone
Sam Oates: Trumpet
Joel Reeves: Trumpet
Congratulations to Leo Dobson, Kainoa Keolakainoa, Megan Taylor, and Patrick O'Brien who were named alternates and had at least one first place vote from a judge. They were all among the best in the room.
The LHS Drumline placed 9th at the HEB Drumline Contest. One of the judges, 16 time DCI Gold Medalist Scott Johnson, ranked the Lovejoy Drumline in 4th place for General Effect. Enjoy the video below:
The Lovejoy Cross Country team hosted the 2016 Lovejoy Fall Festival this past weekend. Special thanks to the coaches and members of the cross country booster club for their hard work in hosting this event for over 3,700 runners. All meet results may be viewed by

A Message from the
Deputy Superintendent
Dear Lovejoy Community:
It is hard to believe we are completing the sixth week of the school year. One of the areas in which Lovejoy has become well known is our teacher professional development program. Our teachers continue to invest in their own professional learning. Today marks the completion of the second day of Pre-AP training from the College Board. Lovejoy English, math, science, and social studies teachers at Sloan Creek and Willow Springs have been learning additional subject-specific teaching strategies for enhancing student work.
As you know, Lovejoy ISD has an academic program which provides instruction at the level described in our written state standards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). This has been described as "Pre-AP for All." This structure in our academic program ensures all students have the academic support to take College Board AP Courses as they become available in high school, if the student chooses to do so.
Our excellent teachers at Sloan Creek and Willow Springs continue their learning to support students to reach their academic potential:
Supporting the needs of each student to reach his/her potential is the primary mission of our academic program.

Puster Elementary School and Willow Springs Middle School
Two of our principals were captured in photographs this week doing something outside of their normal scope of business.
Kevin Parker, Principal of Puster Elementary School was fulfilling a promise to the Puster students. They met their reading goal and he agreed to be taped to the wall.
While Kent Messer, Principal of Willow Springs Middle School, was busy singing and playing guitar during passing periods in an effort to recruit students to join the guitar club.
USEDA Equestrian Drill Team: The Woodhaven Wranglers
The Woodhaven Wranglers Youth Equestrian Drill team is comprised of many Lovejoy students, including Jenna Evans (LHS/12th), Sierra Stammen (LHS/11th), Lindsey Farrell (LHS/11th), Casey Perkins (LHS/10th), Taylor Braun (LHS/9th), Ava Valenzuela (LHS/9th), Avery Beimer (WSMS/8th), Amelia Carothers (WSMS/8th), and Catherine Wilson (WSMS/8th). These young ladies had an outstanding showing at the Super Ride competition this summer, as they won the National Championship in the following 7 categories: Youth Select, Youth Theme, Youth Advanced, Youth Intermediate, Quad Youth Theme, Quad Youth Novice, and Quad Youth Novice Theme. In addition, they are the Reserve National Champions in the World Division.
The girls will be defending their State Fair Championship in October, and the team is conducting tryouts in early November. Please check out:

Lovejoy High School Theatre Presents:
Peter and the Starcatcher -
The Neverland You Never Knew!
Second star to the right and straight on to the stage! The popular children's novel turned stage play will be flying to Lovejoy ISD's Elementary School's stage.
Set in Victorian England, Peter and the Starcatcher introduces the story of Peter Pan, an orphaned boy (played by Bryce Fuller, making his high school acting debut as a freshman) and a precocious Starcatcher-in-training, Molly Aster (Junior, Hannah Hansen).
From swash-buckling pirates to magical mermaids, Peter and the Starcatcher is a fantastical show for the whole family, featuring a range of diverse characters, such as terrifying Black Stache (Senior, Patrick Compton), his goofy sidekick, Smee (Senior, Ryan Allen), and Lord Leonard Aster, Molly's noble father (Senior, Trace Glorioso).
The LHS Theatre Arts department will be touring this show to your child's elementary school this week. Performances held during the school day are free to Lovejoy ISD students.
Open performances will be held at Lovejoy Elementary School on Friday, September 30th at 6:30 PM and Saturday, October 1st at 2:30 PM. Tickets for those performances are $7 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, and seniors. The show is a little less than an hour and there is no intermission. All tickets are general admission; there will be no reserved seating available. You may buy tickets at the door the night of the performance. The box office will open at Lovejoy Elementary at 5:30 PM, and the house opens at 6:00 PM for a 6:30 show time. Limited seating is available and is first come, first served.
Watch as the Lovejoy Theatre performers fight to save the precious treasure, "starstuff", while discovering their romantic feelings and learning to do what is right when nobody else will. Whether you're a kid or a kid-at-heart, there's something in it for everyone.
Introduction to BYOP® (Volleyball) Meeting and Presentation: October 3
BYOP® Program Overview:
This training program is designed for any volleyball player, no matter what skill or ability level, as long as their goal is to become the best they can be. Parents must be fully dedicated to being actively involved in this program. BYOP® will provide excellent volleyball fundamental skills training, as well as life lessons to both player and parent.
BYOP® Program Details:
Each training session will build upon a solid foundation of all fundamental skills needed to participate in the sport of volleyball. Parents must be engaged in every training session and involved in the home training program involving physical and skills activities.

Lovejoy Leopards, Inc. (LLI) Golf Tournament: October 7
The 8th Annual LLI Golf Tournament will be held on October 7th, 2016, at Heritage Ranch with an 8:30 AM shotgun start. Lunch will be served. Raffle items and other fun prizes will be available. The tournament was sold out last year so register early. Please

Lovejoy Women's Lacrosse Try It Days: October 8, October 22 and November 12
Lovejoy senior Kennedy Miller has taken on the challenge of launching the Lady Leopard Lacrosse program as her 2017 Senior Project. Please join Kennedy, Coach Shannon, and the rest of the Lovejoy student volunteer coaching staff for one of the free Try It Days scheduled this fall:

Running Over Depression 5K & 1K Fun Run: October 29
Register now for the first ever Running Over Depression 5K/1K at Lovejoy High School. This event is an Eagle Scout project for Bradley Davis, a Junior at Lovejoy High School. The Dallas Morning News published a great article regarding this project. Please

The run follows a certified course, and awards will be given out to top 3 overall and age group finishers. Bibs purchased by all 5K runners contain chips which will accurately time your race and provide immediate results. You may either sign up online, at packet pickup, or on race day. Entry fee is $30 for 5K, and $20 for 1K. All preregistered runners are guaranteed a t-shirt. . Money raised from entry fees will be donated to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) after costs have been covered. Volunteer Opportunity:
Senior Project Judge
The Senior Project is an exciting part of every Lovejoy High School senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8 to 10-minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills, and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.
You are invited to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place this year at Lovejoy High School on November 15th, December 7th, January 17th, and February 16th. Presentations will begin at 5:30 PM, and should conclude by 9:00 PM. Dinner will be provided each evening.
There are only four opportunities to serve as a Senior Project judge this year. As a result, additional judges will be needed each evening.
