Verse For The Week: "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you."  Luke 17:6

PASTOR'S MESSAGE

Dear friends in Christ,

Serving the Lord can be tough.  Maybe that's why so many are hesitant to offer themselves when service opportunities arise.  The question we ask is: Lord, where will I ever get the faith to be in service to you?  In Sunday's Gospel reading when faced with the difficult challenges of ministry the disciples prayed: "Increase our faith."  Then Jesus told them: "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you."  In his earthly ministry, Jesus carried the punishment for our self-absorbed attitude paying for sin by His death on the cross.  On account His perfect humble sacrifice for us He forgives our sin and grants eternal salvation to all who believe.  If you have faith in Jesus, you have what you need to do ministry.  However, Jesus warns his disciples to keep pride in check and follow him in humility.  Rather than taking credit for our efforts and accomplishments in his name, servants of the Lord should say, "We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty."  Lord, increase our faith.

EVANGELISM POINTS

Can you see yourself in this Evangelism Point?

6. Learn your story.
As Lutherans, we are often gun-shy of the word testimony. We worry that works-righteousness will wriggle its way into the narrative. One of the greatest tools God gives us in witnessing, however, is our own personal story of faith. Learn how to tell people what God has done and continues to do in your life. Declare the sins from which He has freed you, and share the depth of love God showed you in your Baptism when He claimed you. As you tell the story, remember He must increase and you must decrease (John 3:30).

Read all the ways  to help you share the awesome power of the Gospel.
