Today is Character Day, a global event when students and adults have the opportunity to join the conversation around character, focusing on who they are, who they want to be in the world and how to develop the whole child with a focus on personal success factors like resilience, grit, empathy, courage and kindness.

Mary Davenport from North High School:
"One day, the first week of school, I asked a student to stay after class who had said that since he was new, he was feeling so lonely and was therefore having a bad day. As I was checking in with him, another peer from his class came through the door, approached him, stuck out his hand for a shake, and said: 'I'm Carlos. Now you know someone.'
I was almost moved to tears at this student's empathy and kindness, and his courage to act on it."

Join the DPS African-American Equity Task Force by Sept. 28
DPS is launching an African-American Equity Task Force in response to Dr. Sharon Bailey's report on the experiences of African-American educators in the district, and we want you to join. Please apply online by Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The Task Force will develop an Equity Agreement, a compilation of recommended actions, efforts and resources needed to address the factors contributing to the opportunity gap.
