Harvest of Hope

The 2016 Harvest of Hope event was a success thanks, to wonderful supporters. 

Over 200 guests joined us at Travis Pointe Country Club. The most memorable portion of the evening was the presentation by Brittney Barros, an 18-year old  student at EMU  once lived in a ditch and still got perfect attendance and straight As in high school! 

Generous sponsors and guests made this our most successful fundraiser ever: we made $174,000 over the course of the evening  to support incredible programs like emergency shelter, transitional living, supportive housing, counseling, case management, therapy, the Drop-In Center, WorkZone, leadership training, LGBTQ support groups, educational support and so much more!

Ozone House is Going to College!
We are expanding our therapy services to students at Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College.  

Our newest program is an important partnership with Eastern Michigan University's MAGIC (Mentorship Access Guidance In College) and Washtenaw Community College's REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) programs that support students at EMU and WCC who aged out of foster care.

These amazing students worked really hard to get into college, and many find that once they are there, they struggle with effects of some of the difficulties they faced growing up.  So they don't have to find their way off campus for another appointment, Ozone House will be on each campus two days/week to provide therapy and group support right where and right when they need it.

Outcomes of the project include enhancing youths' strengths and assets, as well as reducing symptoms associated with mental health disorders and complex trauma resulting from things like homelessness, abuse/neglect, or violence.

MAGIC and REACH have been providing and unbelievable amount of support to youth who have aged out of foster care, and we are honored to join their teams to add MORE Support for youth.

Fall Crisis Line Training a Success!

24 community volunteers and new staff participated in our Fall Crisis Line Training. The group was led through an exercise called the Privilege Walk which challenged them to consider their biases and to understand their own privilege. Training included crisis intervention, empathetic and reflective listening, and also conversations grounded in social justice which asks participants to identify that the lens they look through has been informed by their own lived experience.
 
Training is a big time commitment for folks to make.  Someone even shared that they felt like not only had they learned a lot but were also walking away a better person.

Our crisis line has been staffed by volunteers since 1969!

Thank you to the hundreds of people who have donated their time to helping youth lead safe, healthy and productive lives!

2016  Peer Outreach Worker Institute starts this week!

Our Peer Outreach Workers spend countless hours walking through the streets of Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, and  attending community fairs and events to educate young people in danger about how to get help. They are also integral to maintaining the Drop-In Center space by supporting programming and serving as role models.  We look forward to welcoming 6 new Peer Outreach Workers in October!

Car Wash 

Our new Millennial Ozone House Board is hosting a car wash at Advance Auto Parts on Stadium Blvd.  All proceeds from their car wash will support programming for youth at Ozone House.

Donate a Move-In Kit

 

We teamed up with the PiperPartners Team to provide  Move-In Kits to young adults in need. A Move-In Kit contains everything a young adult needs to successfully transition into a place of their own: basic kitchen, bath, bedroom supplies, and other important items, which costs about $300. Over 100 youth transition on their own each year.
