WEDGEWOOD SPARK PARK
Wedgewood Elementary was announced as one of five schools in the Houston area to receive a new playground funded through a $5 million donation made to SPARK, a Houston-based non-profit that develops neighborhood parks on school grounds. The announcement was made at a special news conference on September 21 where Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner spoke of the record-setting donation from Houston Endowment and the Kinder Foundation to increase park equity and bring the SPARK Park Program to 30 schools in the Houston area over the next three years. As part of Phase 1 for the grant, Wedgewood will receive $150,000 to help design and build a new neighborhood park over the next year that will reflect the character of the school and the surrounding community. PALS TRAINING DAY
Peer Assistant Leadership students (PALs) from all CCISD high schools gathered at Challenger Columbia Stadium for a day full of training. They spent the day learning fun and interactive leadership activities which they will use when working with other students throughout their campuses.

CHARACTER COURT AT ARMAND BAYOU
Basketball players from Clear Lake High School visited students at Armand Bayou Elementary to teach them about having character on and off the court.
ATHLETIC HALL OF HONOR
The 2016 inaugural class of the CCISD Athletic Hall of Honor was recognized and celebrated during a special ceremony last Friday at Challenger Columbia Stadium.  The Athletic Hall of Honor was formed this year to recognize the efforts and contributions of former CCISD student athletes, coaches and teams who have brought distinction, honor and excellence to themselves and to the District. Nominations this year were only sought for candidates active or enrolled from 1948 to 1972 and whose athletic career was linked to the former Webster High School or Clear Creek High School.  Each of these legends' names will forever be etched on the home side concourse of this stadium and the second floor of the Challenger Columbia Stadium Fieldhouse. Congratulations to all of our Honorees!
NORTH POINTE CARE PACKAGES
North Pointe Elementary Character Coin Winners and their school counselor, Jen Murray, were visited by Richard Buitron, HPD Community Service Liaison Officer, where he thanked them for making and delivering goodie baskets to the HPD Clear Lake Division 12. Students labeled waters and snacks and wrote thank you cards to the officers who keep their neighborhood safe.
FROYO AT FERGUSON
More than 100 students at Ferguson Elementary completed the school's challenge to read for 600+ minutes this summer. They were invited to celebrate with yogurt party sponsored by local frozen yogurt shop, Zoyo. Way to go students!

MIGHTY KNIGHTS
JROTC Cadets from Clear Falls High School recently competed at the Challenger 7 Orienteering meet. There were more than 500 competitors from around the area who showed up to compete in the sport of "Orienteering" where they raced through the woods with a compass and a map to find specific locations in the shortest periods of time. The Mighty Knights cadets had several top finishers in their age and gender brackets:  3rd place finishers Erik Bohrnstedt and Noah Wiley; 2nd place finisher Brennnan Kavalew; and Clark Linan who finished 1st in his age and gender bracket.
HYDE SUGAR GLIDER
First grade students at Hyde Elementary were introduced to the first animal from the Living Materials Center for this year. They will be learning all about Oscar the sugar glider while he visits Hyde, such as where he is originally from, what he eats and how to take care of him.
LCI BEAUTIFY THE BUCKET
Congratulations to the Pre-AP art students at League City Intermediate who won first  place in the youth division of the Galveston Artist Boat "Beautify the Bucket" contest. The trash bin they painted promotes the dangers of marine debris and will be on display at Stewart Beach.
