Learn About the Mission of Family Promise and How You Can Help

The Local Outreach Committee invites you  to join us at Faith and Practice Sunday to learn more about Family Promise and the transformative work they do with families dealing with homelessness.

Christ Church will host several families for a week, October 23-30 here in Church House. We promise to provide safe shelter, healthy meals, fellowship -- and respect -- while they are with us. And we will need lots of help!

Come to Faith and Practice to learn how you can put your faith into action by volunteering to help with Family Promise. Adults and youth of all ages are invited to attend.

Acolyte Altar Party at Christ Church:

All acolytes and those interested in becoming acolytes are invited to an afternoon of fun!  We'll have a training, play some games, and eat pizza as our acolyte crew grows in numbers and strength.  Join this team of 37 young people! Acolytes have no age requirements, but they do need to be strong enough to lift a torch and responsible enough to handle fire. Acolytes may serve as frequently as they choose-it's a great option for those who have a sports commitment for one season, but could serve during another season.

Car Questions
Car Questions are open-ended questions used to generate discussion with your family about life, the universe, and everything on those days when you spend hours driving from one soccer practice to another.  Start somewhere simple and see where it takes you! All roads lead to Rome and all questions can lead to deeper topics, like how we fit into our world and where we see God in our lives.

Formed by two of the world's most basic elements, sand and fire, it is no wonder that Christians have long seen glass in churches as a window to more than just the outside.

No one knows who invented stained glass (it may have started with jewelry) but its popularity began spreading in the Middle Ages during the European church and cathedral building boom. Advances in architecture allowed for large, sweeping windows and many church designers used them to say something big about God....

Because stained glass in churches usually depicts a biblical scene, a sacrament, or the life of a famous saint, another big reason for its popularity is its effectiveness as a teaching tool....

The idea behind stained glass...is that the presence of beautiful objects can lift our souls closer to God. Like nature, stained glass windows open our eyes to the wonders of God. (from The Episcopal Handbook)

Can you find our window depicting Saint John? He's holding a tiny dragon and a chalice. Tune in next week to find out why!
