Governor Charlie Baker signed the Massachusetts Pay Equity bill into law on August 1, 2016. That bill, SB 2119, had an effective date of January 1, 2018. When the bill was codified from a bill to a law (Chapter 177) the effective date was July 1, 2018.

Say what? The house bill 4509 was ultimately adopted through concurrence by the Senate bill 2119. (Every politician wanted fingerprints on this one.) The house bill 4509 has an effective date of 7/1/18. We can state with confidence:

MASS PAY EQUITY LAW HAS AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF JULY 1, 2018.
