2nd Annual Algiers Fest Rocks the Community!

The 2nd annual Algiers Fest took center stage on Saturday, September 17th as residents congregated among family and friends to enjoy a fun-filled day of music, food and local art!

Despite the weather, rain refused to dampen our spirits as this year's Algiers Fest drew an even bigger crowd than last year's 3,000 attendees. Thank you to all of you who
came out to celebrate our community and honor our military in what turned out to be a truly special day.

Last but not least, many thanks to all of our sponsors including the 30-plus combined hotels and other local businesses who offered to donate items as part of our Algiers Fest raffle and giveaways.

Our Algiers Fest  Facebook Page captured all of the fun!

Sincerely,

Algiers Development District

SOUL Comes to   Algiers: Help Reforest our Neighborhood

SOUL, Sustaining Our Urban Landscape, works with neighborhoods around New Orleans to plant trees and reforest local areas. Susannah Burley founded SOUL in order to improve New Orleans neighborhoods' food systems and ability to handle storm water. New Orleans is the most deforested city in the United States. More trees can help rebuild the water table, handle run off, cool air temperatures and lower asthma and obesity rates.

Burley has a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from LSU and is bringing her expertise to Algiers. She plans to host information sessions for Algiers and Algiers Point residents to create a tree palette and schedule plantings. Burley says she is still looking for sponsorships in Algiers and wants to begin work since tree planting season begins in November and lasts through March. To sponsor a planting, contact Burley at [email protected] or to receive more information about SOUL, sign up here.
