Upcoming professional development short course focuses on
decision-making about products, projects in companies
  

Engineers and scientists working as technical experts and in management functions can enroll in an upcoming professional development course on engineering leadership at K-State Olathe. The short course will teach a logical, structured way to evaluate products and projects at a company to ensure the best use of company resources. The course is Oct. 27-28.
  
Discover K-State in KC

On Oct. 5, K-State is bringing its four campuses to the Greater Kansas City area for Discover  K-State in KC -- an information event about the university's more than 250 academic offerings. The event is designed to help area residents achieve their career goals by finding which
K-State campus fits their educational needs.

Cochran Fellowship Program partners with K-State to train agri-food systems workers from Africa

Two K-State Olathe faculty members and one graduate student recently hosted six international visitors in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Cochran Fellowship program. Visitors learned about global training systems, animal health, plant health and food safety.

Expert panel discusses region's workforce talent, growth at recent academic event

More than 100 people attended a recent information and panel discussion event about expanding Greater Kansas City's workforce potential through a new academic degree. 
College placement program for Johnson, Wyandotte counties unveiled

On Aug. 23, K-State Olathe and Shawnee Mission North High School kicked off the Kansas State College Advising Corps. The program establishes a pathway into higher education for more than 10,000 students currently enrolled at Olathe East and North high schools; Shawnee Mission North, South and West high schools; and Turner High School.

Gen. Richard Myers, interim president of Kansas State University, introduces the Kansas State College Advising Corps program that will help low-income, first-generation college and underrepresented high school students navigate the complex systems associated with selecting a college.

  • Introductory PKPD Concepts and Applications, Oct. 24-25 -- K-State Olathe is hosting a pharmacokinectic and pharmacodynamic, or PKPD, workshop Oct. 24-25. It explores how quantitative in silico models can improve pharmacokinectic and pharmacodynamic data analyses.  Register now.
     
  • Kansas City One Health Day, Nov. 3 -- On Nov. 3, individuals and groups from around the world will celebrate a collaborative approach to improving human, animal and planetary health. The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute, BioKansas and K-State Olathe are partnering to hold activities from 4-7 p.m. at the Kauffman Foundation, including Collaborate2Cure, networking at a BioBreak and then a keynote presentation by renowned Zika expert, Dr. Stephen Higgs. 
     
  • Information session for academic programs, Nov. 10 -- Join K-State Olathe at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, for a short information session about our academic programs, scholarships and all things K-State Olathe.  Register now.
New hires

K-State Olathe recently welcomed two new members to the Wildcat family.





Kitti O'Donnell

Kitti O'Donnell joined K-State Olathe as the assistant program coordinator for the associate dean. She provides administrative support that helps the School of Applied and Interdisciplinary Studies at K-State Olathe deliver programs and services to the Greater Kansas City area. 


Martin Talavera

Martin Talavera, Ph.D., joined K-State Olathe as an assistant professor of sensory analysis and consumer behavior. He conducts sensory analysis research in the Sensory and Consumer Research Center at K-State Olathe -- part of the internationally recognized Sensory Analysis Center in the College of Human Ecology. He instructs on-campus and distance classes at K-State Olathe and the Manhattan campus. He also performs outreach and service to communities served by both campuses.

On Sept. 21, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran visited the K-State Olathe campus. Senator Moran met with Ralph Richardson, dean and CEO at K-State Olathe, to learn about the campus and to  discuss the importance of ensuring that Kansas students who are interested in STEM professions stay in the state. He advocated accomplishing this through workforce development and the promotion of entrepreneurship and new STEM-based companies.

K-State Olathe recently hosted Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder and several of the state's farmers and ranchers for the Johnson County Farm Bureau Association's 99th Annual Meeting. Congressman Yoder discussed the importance of Kansas agriculture in the world and his policies concerning the topic.
