Call for Proposals Open: 2017 APSA Annual Meeting!
There are a variety of formats for the 2017 Annual Meeting including Paper, iPoster, Full Panel (paper panel), Roundtable, Paper Presentations, Teaching Café, Research Café, Outreach Café, Short Course or Workshop, Mini-conference, and Author(s) Meet Critics. We hope to see people take advantage of these formats to present their research in compelling ways. Learn more about your proposal options, submission guidelines, and the 2017 conference theme by visiting the 2017 Annual Meeting website.

Deadline Extended: Monday, September 26, 2016
The 2017 conference theme is "The 21st Century Classroom: Creating an Engaging Environment for All Students." Paper and workshop proposals are welcomed from all educators who teach political science and related subjects-university faculty and administrators, high school teachers, graduate students, research scholars, and others.  Submit your paper or workshop proposal!
Programs & Initiatives 
Deadline for applications is October 25. 
The APSA Minority Fellows Program, established in 1969, aims to increase diversity and the presence of underrepresented individuals in the profession. Each year, the Minority Fellows Program awards up to 12 funded fellowships in the amount of $4,000.  Read more or contact the  APSA Diversity & Inclusion Program.

Deadline for applications is December 5.
The APSA Congressional Fellowship Program is accepting applications for the 2017-2018 fellowship year. Fellows gain hands-on experience in Congress by serving on congressional staffs, following an intensive one-month orientation. Open to political scientists who have completed a PhD in the last 15 years or will have defended a dissertation by November 2017. Applications are welcome from political scientists in all subfields with a scholarly interest in Congress and policymaking. Fellowships are also available for journalists and communications scholars.  Learn more & apply.

Upcoming deadline for applications is December 15.
The Centennial Center is pleased to announce two research grant deadlines for the 2016-2017 grant year. Applications from APSA members for supplemental research support will be accepted by December 15, 2016, and June 15, 2017.
 
The Visiting Scholar Program continues to accept applications for desk space inside APSA's Washington, DC office for November 2016, December 2016, and 2017! APSA members visiting DC for research or teaching strongly encouraged to apply.

Interested in serving as an external reviewer?
As a resource for APSA departmental members seeking external review, the Departmental Services Program maintains a list of faculty who have volunteered to serve as reviewers.  Submit your information today! 

Department Chairs: Update Your APSA Departmental Profiles
Please notify APSA of changes in department officers. Submit new appointments for department chair, vice-chair, director of graduate studies, and director of undergraduate studies, as well as changes in department administrators.  Submit new appointments here.
PhD departments: Remember to enroll before the MSRP database is distributed at the end of the month. PhD department officers can enroll their departments online through their APSA accounts.  The MSRP connects undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds who are interested in or show potential for graduate study with graduate programs interested in recruiting diverse cohorts of doctoral students.

Public Policymaking by Private Organizations

As Catherine E. Rudder, A. Lee Fritschler, and Yon Jung Choi detail in their new work Public Policymaking by Private Organizations (Brookings Institution Press 2016), private groups set numerous public policies today. Learn more about this phenomenon and the implications for democratic governance at a book talk and reception with the authors. Perspectives on Politics
US political science has much to contribute to the understanding of this electoral contest and its underlying dimensions, dynamics, and likely consequences. The September issue of Perspectives contains a variety of articles, essays, and reviews of direct relevance to the election and the broader dynamics of US politics. Read more.

Members attending the APSA 2016 Annual Meeting had a chance to discuss the new editorial team's plans for the American Political Science Review (APSR). Read about the new team online.  Manuscript submission guidelines are also available here. 
The task force report, The Double Bind: The Politics of Racial and Class Inequalities in the Americas, investigates how race and class interact to produce political, social, and material inequalities in the nations of the Americas. Political science has begun to pay greater attention to the causes and consequences of inequality, but the recent literature on inequality in political science has focused on how rising income inequality affects political representation.
