The Poet_s Dog
Miss Andrea recommends The Poet's Dog by Patricia MacLachlan

On a stormy night two children are stranded in the forest while their mother ventures out for help. An Irish Wolfhound named Teddy appears and leads them to his home where they realize they can understand what Teddy is saying. As they wait out the storm they learn about the poet who was Teddy's master and a special ability that both poets and children possess.

This short story will appeal to children in grades 2 - 3 who enjoy a little poetry, dogs, and a simple yet poignant plot.
