The athletic apparel website is almost complete. The website store will contain t-shirts for all fall sports along with the quarter-zip pullover and a hoodie! More to come very soon.

It's not too late to join Advanced Archery! Practices for Advanced Archery are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:15pm in the gravel parking lot  AND we have five brand new targets this year! Sign up on the athletic website at AretePrepChargers.com/Enrollment or contact Jan McKernan with any questions. As a reminder, Advanced Archery is for students who have already completed a season of beginner's archery.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
ALEXA HAGER

The Player Spotlight highlights one athlete per week to allow our community to get to know your Charger athletes!

This week's player spotlight is on Junior ALEXA HAGER

What drew you to participate in Cross Country?
Originally, I knew I wanted to compete in Track and knew I had to be in shape for that. When I joined cross country, I discovered I really loved the sport and have been working hard to get better over time.

What other sports do you enjoy? What do you enjoy about those sports?
Basketball and Track. I enjoy the team aspect of basketball. I enjoy having a balance of everything, but I really like the atmosphere during basketball season with the fans cheering on everyone. I like Track because Coach Caviness really stresses "team". I become very determined... setting goals and reaching them.

How do you balance schoolwork with your athletic commitment?
Since cross country is in the morning, I utilize my afternoons really well. I attend tutoring a lot so I can understand something better. Tutoring saves time instead of trying to struggle through on my own for too long.

After college, what career path most interests you?
Psychology... it plays into a lot of different things, including sports. Thinking about how a person is going to accomplish goals. I want to figure out how people approach setting goals and how they go about reaching them.

Who is your favorite athlete, or college or pro team?
My favorite two athletes are Jamie Young and Crystal Akpede. Seeing the way they have grown as athletes and people, I've always looked up to them with their determination and how they reached their goals. I hope I can be like that at some point.

SPORT CALENDARS

Here are your calendars for the fall season. If there are major changes, the coaches will let you know. Locations and times for MS Cross Country meets are still rolling in and we will update you as they become available.

(Remember... all athletes must check out at the front desk before leaving campus.)

Ah, bear crawls... these are a few of my favorite things.

WOODEN's CORNER

We aim for students to develop a Great Soul* while pursuing  Competitive Greatness**

The Pyramid of Success was created by Coach John Wooden and is the foundation for all of our athletic teams. Each week, we will highlight a block from the Pyramid so parents, athletes, and non-athletes can learn the invaluable lessons set forth in the Pyramid. This week's block is...

COOPERATION" Be more concerned with finding the best way than with having it your way."
  • Cooperation has two key components; first, each individual performs to the best of their ability - not in comparison to how others perform tasks, but in relation to their own ability.
  • Second, each person looks for ways to help others do their job better. The common goals of a team require cooperation.
  • Cooperation is working with others for the benefit for all.

"It is necessary for one who is great-souled in the true sense to be good, and what is great in each virtue would seem to belong to someone who is great-souled." Aristotle, (Nicomachean Ethics, Bk IV, Ch 3)

**Competitive Greatness is the pinnacle of the late John Wooden's "Pyramid of Success" outlining the habits and principles we expect coaches to cultivate in working with our students. The consistent training and work in alignment with these habits and principles will contribute to students developing the virtues (excellence) that belong to the one who is great-souled.

CHARGER OF THE WEEK

COLE GABLE plays for the middle school football team. Cole is a new student at Arete Prep, but he's not new to the game of football. This past Saturday, Cole scored an amazing not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Touchdowns! Two of Cole's touchdowns were on the ground, one receiving, and another on a kick off return. Congratulations to Cole Gable for being the Charger of the Week!

REMINDERS & LINKS
We have a dirt pile in the southeast corner of the campus (next to the storage containers) that is free for anyone who is willing to shovel it away. This dirt came from the installation of the scoreboard on the field and we would like to see the dirt go to a good home! First come, first serve!
