Dear Tau Alumni, Parents, & Actives,

I would like to share with you an article from the archives of Kappa Sigma Fraternity's national publication,The Caduceus of Kappa Sigma. The article, appearing in the June 1904 edition, was submitted by a Tau Chapter alumnus to announce the completion and opening of the first Chapter house ̶  which also holds the distinction of being the first fraternity house built west of the Mississippi River.

The original house built in 1904 cost $7,500, a small fraction of the cost of our new house, but the closing line of the article still rings true today:

"Tau occupies a position of strength and security at Texas, and the Chapter house will do more to sustain that position than any other thing at this time."

Let's take these words to heart and help continue the Kappa Sigma Tau Legacy created by the generous alumni who came before us.  Please make a pledge to the Tau Legacy 2015 capital campaign today.  Simply click on the name of your choice below to contact one of us by email or give us a call at one of the numbers below.

Article appearing in the June 1904 edition of
 The Caduceus of Kappa Sigma

CHAPTER-HOUSE OF TAU CHAPTER.

The brothers of Tau Chapter have been laboring incessantly for the past few years to own the most attractive Chapter habitation at the University of Texas, and the usual reward of patience and industry has now come to fruition in the shape of a house that is not merely creditable but attractive in every way.

The house is located at the corner of Nineteenth and Colorado Streets, in Austin, only two blocks from the University grounds, and the place is acknowledged to be the best in Austin for a Fraternity house, being equally close to the University and to the business part of the city. It is built of brick and fine Colonial style; has eight rooms and two large halls, with fireplaces in each room. The whole building is lighted by gas and electricity.

Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter's First House
(original size)  was completed in 1904.
The house has been built by the Kappa Sigma Alumni of the State of Texas, and is under the management of a committee composed of members of the University Faculty and leading Alumni living in Austin.  The cost has been about $7,500, and according to the plans of the architect, the house will be as large again as it is now. At this time an especially earnest effort is being made to raise the money to erect the additional wing as contemplated in the plans, and every Alumnus of Tau owes it to the loyal brothers in charge of the work to aid in raising the desired money.

Tau occupies a position of strength and security at Texas, and the Chapter house will do more to sustain that position than any other thing at this time.

                                                                                        Alumnus.
