Dear St. John Paul II Families,
Once again, our community has so many things to be grateful for! What a remarkable turn-out we had on Sunday for our last football game. Our players and cheerleaders worked very hard! It was so special to see our many families come together and enjoy the afternoon cheering on our SAINT team.
This Friday, October 7th, will be our second month to celebrate the First Friday devotion; remember to have your children mark-off October on their "Passport to Heaven" cards as they grow in holiness. All are welcome to join us in celebrating Mass this Friday at school too.
Be sure to read the feature below in "Forming Families of Disciples". Last week, our students gathered in their Saint Families to learn about the 12 promises received by those who participate in the First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart. We are thankful for the 8th graders for sharing this devotion with our younger students.
Lastly, it is with great gratitude that our 8th graders have an opportunity to experience Washington D.C. They are gone this week, and so far, pictures show them having a wonderful time! Please keep them in your prayers.

Forming Families of Disciples
|
|
On September 27, our students took part in the first Saint Families meeting of the 2016-2017 school year. Saint Families, a very special tradition here at StJPII, are student groupings with one student from each grade, PreK – 8th. Each group forms a student family to which they belong their entire time at StJPII. They meet several times a year and work on fun activities
designed to compliment our religion curriculum, encourage active listening, and provide our 8th graders with an opportunity to share their faith and to serve in a leadership role. Please ask your student today about their Saint Family experience!

Ready, Set, Donate! Annual Fund Drive To Launch Soon
Since our founding in 1988, StJPII has worked hard to faithfully fulfill our mission to prepare all students spiritually and academically to succeed in life and to do God’s will. Each year, we ask parents, volunteers, grandparents, special friends, faculty and staff to make an investment in StJPII through our Annual Fund Drive, which supports every aspect of the school’s mission. The Annual Fund provides StJPII with the resources we need today to deliver a vigorous curriculum that allows us to meet all students’ needs, and to be as accessible as possible to those who want to join our family. Please look for details about the 2016-2017 Annual Fund Drive in your youngest child’s Tuesday folder soon. Should you have any questions, contact the Development Office.

Christmas Card Contest - Deadline October 7
Each year, StJPII sends out hundreds of Christmas cards to our families, friends and benefactors. So, why not have the cards reflect the artistic talents of our own students? Students are invited to submit artwork capturing the holiness of the Christmas season. Please click here for the entry form (on which the drawing needs to be submitted). All submissions are due by this Friday, October 7. A panel of judges will select the winning designs, which will be professionally printed and used as our “official” StJPII Christmas cards. Save the Date!
Grandparents & Special Friends Day November 18
StJPII will honor Grandparents and Special Friends on the Friday before Thanksgiving break, November 18.
"Save the Date" postcards were mailed this week to the current grandparents and special friends we have on record. We are looking forward to celebrating this occasion with our extended family! The format will be similar to previous years, featuring performances by elementary students, our middle school chorale and the 7th/8th grade band.
Formal invitations with all the details will be mailed later this month.
If we do not have your grandparents' or special friends' address on file, if their address is incomplete, or if they live out of the country, they will not receive an invitation. If your child’s grandparents cannot attend, then you may invite a special adult friend to come in their place (just not another StJPII parent). Please remember that Grandparents Day is a day for grandparents and special friends only - rest assured that every year
we have children who do not have a grandparent or special friend attend, and they enjoy the day and do just fine! Our students are great about sharing their special guests with classmates whose grandparents cannot attend. Stay tuned to Saints Weekly for more details as the event approaches.
Please contact the
Development Office
with any address updates or questions you may have.

Middle School Update
Football: The football team traveled to Frassati High School last week to play the St. Anthony of Padua Dolphins. The game went the Dolphins' way in the first half as they built a 35 point lead. The 2nd half proved to be better for our Saints with the team scoring a touchdown. The football team had their final game of the season on Sunday vs. St. Laurence right here at home on the soccer field! Although the team lost, there was a tremendous amount of SAINTS SPIRIT with everyone enjoying the atmosphere and beautiful weather!
Volleyball: The volleyball teams competed in several high intensity matches last week with back-to-back games 3 days in a row. Our 6th grade team had a loss, a win and a tie, our JV players had 1 win and 2 losses, and our Varsity team suffered 3 losses in some very tight competition. Varsity also played in the St. Agnes Tournament on Saturday, but unfortunately lost early in the competition.
Soccer: While JV had the week off, the varsity soccer team had great success on the field last week beating St Thomas More 3-1 increasing their District record 6-0-1! Lord willing, we are working our way to another Diocesan Championship!
Cross Country: On Saturday, the cross country team competed at the St. Thomas Episcopal Invitational along with 22 other private and public schools. The girl’s team placed 5th overall in a meet totaling 132 runners. The boy’s team placed 5th overall in a meet totaling 174 runners.
Great Job Saints Athletes!
