A Young Survivor and His Cause

Twin teenage brothers Richie and Robbie Iest had a tradition of going to the Chowchilla Fair each spring to sell their family's prized heifers.

But last year those plans changed. Richie was having severe back pain and was brought into Valley Children's Emergency Department. He was later diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma and started chemotherapy the next night.

Richie spent most of that summer in the Hospital's ICU and Craycroft wing in the care of Drs. Vinod Balasa and Faisal Razzaqi. Three months after he was diagnosed, Richie got a clean scan and was cancer free, just in time to start his freshman year of high school with his brother.

When they returned to the Fair last spring, Richie told his story to the crowd and announced all proceeds from this year's heifer would be donated to Valley Children's oncology department. The heifer raised $21,275. When Mr. Greg Hostetler of Dos Palos heard about Richie's idea and the community's generosity, he graciously agreed without Richie's knowledge to match the proceeds of the auction to bring the grand total to an astounding $42,550.

On August 9, Richie and his family came to the Hospital to present their check. He was overwhelmed to learn of Mr. Hostetler's matching donation.

We would like to thank Richie Iest and the entire Iest family for their continued generosity to Valley Children's, and to Greg Hostetler for his amazing gift to support the efforts of a high school student who was trying to make a difference in the community.

Our gratitude to ABC-30, The Wonderful Company, Wells Fargo, Wild Electric, Eye-Q Vision Care, and Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino for making this second annual telethon a big success. $159,319 Raised to Support 18th Annual KISS Country Radiothon

The 18th Annual KISS Country for Kids Radiothon, a three-day radio event broadcast live from Valley Children's Hospital, raised a remarkable $159,319. For the eighteenth straight year, 93.7 FM KISS Country dedicated their valuable airtime to reach their audience on our behalf. We are so appreciative of KISS Country's longstanding partnership with Valley Children's. Year after year your generosity makes a difference in the lives of children.

A special thank you to sponsors Valley First Credit Union and Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, as well as event supporters Wells Fargo and Valley Unique Electric.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Valley families who called in to pledge their support to Valley Children's. We are grateful for each and every person's commitment. We would like to particularly thank the many donors who continue to support Valley Children's through the Radiothon year after year. Your generous donations are fueling better healthcare for Valley kids.

Derek Carr Touchdown Challenge

We invite you to consider joining the Derek Carr Touchdown Challenge.  The premise is simple for this exclusive club: for every touchdown pass Derek throws in the upcoming 2016-17 season (plus any QB rushing TDs), participants will donate $100 to Valley Children's Healthcare. At the completion of the season, participants make a single donation for the total number of touchdowns scored. Congratulations to Derek Carr and the Raiders for their 35-34 win over the New Orleans Saints this past Sunday. Derek's one touchdown pass will benefit children through his fund, DC4KIDS.

In appreciation for participating in the inaugural Touchdown Challenge, club members will receive an autographed photo of Derek and an invitation to attend a special reception with Derek in 2017. Participants will also be acknowledged in a weekly "Touchdown Count" post on the Foundation's Facebook page recognizing Derek's performance in the game as well as our generous Touchdown Challenge club members' names.

If you are interested in joining Derek for the Touchdown Challenge, or have any questions,  please contact the Foundation department at 559.353.7100, or by email at   foundation@valleychildrens.org.
