Western Maryland AHEC Recognizes Regional Health Professionals' Efforts to Improve Community Health at 39th Annual Awards Dinner
Western Maryland Area Health Education Center  recognized regional health professionals' efforts toward improving community health at their 39th Annual Awards Dinner at the Cumberland Country Club on Tuesday, June 9th, 2015. Western Maryland AHEC is proud to honor and celebrate health professionals dedicated to addressing regional health disparities, mentoring future health professionals, and committed to enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Western Maryland and the surrounding Appalachian area. We will be sending several Happenings issues throughout the rest of June to ensure that all health professionals who received an award are recognized accordingly.

Mary Money, MD,  received the  2015 Jane A. Fiscus Award.  Dr. Fiscus' extraordinary principles of leadership, coordination of services, interdisciplinary training, foresight, courage and creativity championed and demonstrated her commitment to the improvement of the health and well-being of the citizens of Allegany County and the surrounding area.

In recognition of the above attributes, this award is presented to Mary Money for her remarkable contributions in public health, not only in Washington County, but also statewide.  Her years of dedication to the practice of high-quality interprofessional medicine, education, research, and public health have contributed greatly to the region's health and  well-being . Dr. Money demonstrated her commitment to quality healthcare in numerous ways throughout her career.  She also has donated her time to train and mentor students placed in her practice via the Western Maryland AHEC.

Dr. Sue V. Raverrecently retired health officer for Allegany County, received the 2015 Donald L. Spencer Award in recognition of her longtime active service on the Board of Directors and her advocacy for Western Maryland AHEC and its mission to improve access to and promote quality in health care through educational and other partnerships. Over the years, she has provided job shadowing opportunities and much other support for Western Maryland AHEC programs. Dr. Raver embodies a rare degree of organizational dedication and commitment to the values and ideals that former Western Maryland AHEC Executive Director Don Spencer represented.

Menchavez Pediatrics receives the 2015 Distinguished Service Award.
 
Menchavez Pediatrics received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of their extensive history of high quality training and mentoring of students and their support of and involvement with the Western Maryland AHEC Board of Directors.
