Principal's Pen

Our NC Wildcats are outside on the soccer fields and cross country paths, while the volleyball girls take to their inside courts. Many of our clubs have started meeting, we had our first mass, first fire drill, shelter in place and lock down drill, first dance, and we have settled in academically in all the disciplines. Progress reports came last week and we are now looking toward report cards on November 10.
I am excited to announce that Mrs. Deb Gauvin has been nominated and accepted into the Manchester Diocese Aspiring Leadership Academy. Mrs. Gauvin, a science and English teacher, will be one of five protégés in the academy, who will discern a vocation in building level leadership. During this school year, Mrs. Gauvin will be guided in leadership formation on an ongoing basis through prayer, reflection, and dialogue with me, as I serve as her mentor. This is a one school year program grounded in the Catholic School Leadership Framework of the Archdiocese of Omaha. The program will also reference the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools. Congratulations, Mrs. Gauvin! Please keep Mrs. Gauvin in your prayers throughout the school year.
Speaking of prayer, please pray for the NC faculty and staff as we go through our accreditation visit October 16 through October 19. Everyone has worked so diligently and we are very excited to show our fabulous school to the NEASC visiting committee members. I would like to especially thank Mrs. M-C, our NEASC Chair, who organized, motivated, and praised us all the past one and a half years.
Lastly, I hope to see many of our 8th grade students and parents at the high school fair. It is such an informative and important night that Mrs. Kirkwood offers our NC families. Please try to attend, you will enjoy the evening.
Enjoy the delights of this beautiful season.

Peace and blessings,

Mrs. McFadden

Attention 8th Grade Families - This is for you!
High School Fair Night

Nashua Catholic Presents
High School Fair Night 2016
Tuesday, October 46:30-8:00 p.m., NC Gym
Each year at Nashua Catholic, we kick-off the high school entrance process for our 8th grade students by holding a high school fair. As our students traditionally go on to a dozen or more different schools, Nashua Catholic does not give out high school applications. Fair night will give our families the opportunity to speak with a wide variety of schools, acquire information, and compare schools, just as they will do during a college search in the near future. It is important for parents to come with their 8th grader to help guide him or her through the discovery process and pickup the Recommendations Folder.  This folder is due back to the NC office on or before October 28th. Complete instructions are inside each envelope.
This year our  presenters include the following schools:
  • Trinity High School
  • Bishop Guertin
  • Brewster Academy
  • Groton School
  • Central Catholic
  • New Hampton School
  • Portsmouth Abbey School
  • Holderness School
  • Cushing Academy
  • Academy of Notre Dame
  • Lawrence Academy
  • Sparhawk School
  • The Derryfield School
  • Choate Rosemary Hall
  • Tilton School

Monthly Bake Sales begin  Friday, October 7 and it's Hat Day!
Our first Bake Sale, our Pink Sale, is this Friday, October 7 at lunch.  We ask all of our NC community to help as the proceeds will be for two groups.  The first group, Making Strides Against Cancer is why this Bake Sale has a pink theme.  We sponsored this group last year and will be doing a water stop for their walk and passing them our donation on October 30th.  The second group is called Hats Off for Cancer.  Their focus is to improve the quality of life for kids and teens fighting cancer.  One way to do this is by sponsoring a Kids' Hat Drive.  So, if you have a fun, new, kids hat for a child going through cancer treatments, donate it at the Bake Sale on Friday, &/or bring in $1 and wear your own favorite or crazy hat this Friday all day!

Remember we need bake sale items.  Please sign up to bring in nut free, "bagged for sale"  items, on the list by Mrs. Maloney's door.  All items are .50 cents per bag at the sale.

Hoops for Hearts Basketball Tournament
The Sixth Annual Hoops for Hearts Basketball Tournament will be held at Nashua Catholic over the weekend of
November 4th , 5th, and 6th. Thanks to the commitment of Mr. Paul Williams and NC alumna, Emma Williams, this event brings in money to fund our service projects. In addition, a huge assortment of non-perishable foods are collected and donated to the  Food Pantry from workers and attendees at this tourney. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Nashua Catholic to others in our community. We need student/parent volunteers to help sell tickets and 50/50 raffles, and to work concessions. Please consider signing up with Mrs. Maloney and Mrs. Kirkwood to help out during this weekend event.

Athletic Headlines

The leaves are changing, the weather is getting cooler but the pressure of playoff thinking for our fall athletes is starting to heat up. The regular seasons are starting to wind down, and we are to the point where each game, set, match, or meet can make a difference in a potential playoff picture.
Boys soccer has been competing hard all season and has had many close games. With one of the toughest schedules to start any season, the boys were faced with grueling matchup after grueling matchup early on. In their first four games of the year, the team was tasked with playing the best four teams in the division. With a tough uphill climb to start the season, the boys and Coach Laliberte worked day in and day out to come together as a team. No matter the final score, it is blatantly evident that these boys have come together and are now playing as one cohesive group. The boys are finally getting the offense they have been looking for and they are just one bounce away from their first victory of the season.
Volleyball is moving right along. The girls are coming off a huge win over crosstown rival, Elm Street. It was the first match that the girls have won this season, and everything was clicking as the girls won in straight sets. With a very talented eighth grade group of girls leading the way, our girls are looking to repeat that winning effort, as they make a late push for the playoffs. Our girls have a great opportunity to win their remaining games and have a good seeding come the first round of the Tri-County postseason tournament.
Wildcat runners have been making a splash in the cross country community all season long. With plenty of meets left to run, our cross country team has already compiled an individual first-place finish, a boys' team victory, and numerous personal records for our athletes. Coach Kathie Roy has these boys and girls running each day to help develop that level of consistency needed to compete and be successful in the upcoming Tri-County and New Hampshire State meets. The season is in the home stretch, and these young wildcat runners are looking to find that late burst to power them through the remaining meets of the year. It's looking like this is going to be a spectacular finish with many team and individual accolades to cheer about!
Girls' Soccer is also beginning to come to a close on their regular season. With only one remaining away game, the girls are looking forward to playing the final three games of the year at home in front of the Wildcat faithful over at Main Dunstable Field. After some impressive victories and tremendous efforts, our girls are sitting in the middle of the pack with some favorable matchups to come. With the potential for a few more wins, our girls are out practicing hard and looking to be at their best come the start of the playoffs. With an offense that has come alive, a tough defense, and stellar goaltending, these Wildcats feel as though they can make a real push. The goal for this team is to keep on winning, and be able to clinch a position where we could host a first round playoff game!

GO WILDCATS!
