Eleventh grade students present their water filtration systems developed to assist during a refugee crisis.  Thanks to the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees and the YMCA for serving as content experts on presentation day!

Congratulations to ninth grade student Leo Wall for earning the Scholastics Art Awards National Gold Medal for his submission of the painting pictured above.  Of the 65 gold medalists a small number were selected to be on display at the Department of Education. Leo traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the ribbon cutting and to see his work on display.  Very impressive work - congratualtions Leo!
Biodome Project Showcase

Congratulations to Cohort 6 on the successful completion of their first project of the year.  Students presented their Biodome projects to the rest of their cohort members and a panel of judges.  The projects look incredible!  We are excited to announce that the top teams will be presenting in Austin at the Space City Competition this November. Great job to everyone involved.  This was one memorable and exciting project!
Debate Team Update

Energy's debate team participated in their first JV LD Debate Tournament this past Saturday at Westbury High School.  Students spent time prepping for their debate topics and wrapped up the day competing against other HISD competitors.  Sophomores Ricardo Padilla and Noah Prophet placed sixth in their first debate for Energy!
Rice Catalyst Eureka Opportunity

Ten seniors were chosen last month to participate in an exclusive ten week long opportunity with Rice's Catalyst publishing group. Energy was selected to work this pilot program with Rice in which students will work 1:1 with mentors for the rest of the semester writing a scientific article about a topic of their choice. Students, including, Chance Bednorz, Andrew Farias, Francisco Anaya, Fernando Sanchez, Abigail Parakoyi, Caio Carrugati, David Burbano, Avin Pasalar, Shawheen Attar, and Josue Martinez. have leapt at this unique opportunity. Both students and mentors were very excited to meet after school during today's kick-off meeting. Stay tuned for the release of their articles on Rice campus and at Energy in the upcoming months. Are you interested in writing and publishing an article with Rice? See Ms. Estrella for more details on how to become involved.
