PTA Information

Chinook Book Sales
Chinook Books and Apps, a PTA fundraiser that targets $2000 in annual profit for Whittier, are on sale for one final week in the lobby before and after school. If you aren't able to visit the lobby, contact Katy Palmer to arrange your order. Find more information here.

Help Washington State PTA Speak up for Kids
Every fall, the Washington State PTA selects its legislative priorities, and hearing from you is a valuable step in the process. Your responses will assist voting delegates who attend the Legislative Assembly in setting the 2016-17 legislative platform. Take the survey here. Survey closes this Thursday, Oct. 6 at 12:15pm.

Shop for Whittier: Purchase Scrip/Gift Cards
Whittier PTA raises roughly $2000 each year through Scrip sales. Scrip is a program that allows Whittier PTA to purchase gift cards at a reduced rate and sell them at face value, keeping the difference as profit. Gift cards from nearly 30 popular retailers including QFC/Fred Meyer, Safeway, Amazon, iTunes, Starbucks and more, are available for purchase at Whittier, and hundreds more are available online.

Please consider turning your routine or special purchases (e.g., gifts, furniture, technology, etc.) into funds for Whittier:

  1. Purchase gift cards in the Whittier lobby before and after school on Fridays (selection limited to cards on hand).
  2. Look for gift card order forms via KidMail in the near future.
  3. Order gift cards online; find instructions here.

Hosts Needed: Staff Appreciation Luncheons
It is Whittier tradition that each grade hosts one staff lunch during the school year to express our appreciation for all they do. Parent volunteers are needed to "host" each of the following grade-level luncheons:

5th Grade - Weds., Nov. 9
4th Grade - Thurs., Dec. 8
3rd Grade - Thurs., Jan. 26, 2017
2nd Grade - Weds., Feb. 8, 2017
1st Grade - Weds., Mar. 15, 2017
Kindergarten - Weds., Apr. 19, 2017

Host duties: pick a theme (sandwich bar, taco bar, etc); create/edit a SignUp Genius (a template is available); and follow up to make sure the lunch is well-stocked. You do not need not be in attendance the day of the lunch. If you (and/or a friend) are interested in hosting a staff appreciation lunch, sign up here.

Questions? Please contact the PTA Event Chair.

Volunteers Needed for Hearing/Vision Screening
Nurse Joan coordinates an annual Hearing and Vision Screening for our Wildcats. This year's event is around the corner on Thursday, Oct. 13th and we need volunteers. Screening will take place throughout the day. If you have a 2- or 3-hour chunk of time to spare during the school day, please let Heidi Wachter know. Training included.

Required Volunteer Paperwork
To volunteer at Whittier during the 2016-2017 school year, you will need to complete the necessary paperwork. Printed volunteer packets are available in the office, or you can find the information and documents you need here

Thank You!

A big THANK YOU to several super volunteers who manage important PTA fundraising efforts: Misha Graham and Kate Mathews for their help organizing Spirit Gear sales; Katy Palmer for tackling Chinook Book and App sales; Yi Lin Naumann and Cara Davidson for their management of Scrip sales; and Wendy Hurley for tallying all those Ballard Market receipts. All of these efforts add up!

If you have someone you want to thank or give a virtual high-five, please email us.
