Reduced Services on August 2, 3, and 4
WheelbarrowOn Thursday, August 2; Friday, August 3; and Saturday, August 4, we will be reorganizing most of the adult collection.  In order for us to accomplish this, the items on the shelves and seating in that area will be unavailable.  There will also be limited computer service on those days.

The audio collection, DVDs, nonfiction books, Spanish language collection, Arizona collection, and new books will be relocated.  The fiction, biography, and magazine sections will remain where they are, but those areas will also be unavailable when the moving crew is working nearby.

The Children's Room will be open as usual.  Except for Saturday morning, the Si Birch Community Room will be available for WiFi service with your own computer.  Items on hold can be picked up, but we may not have access to some of the material to fill holds.

We apologize for any inconvenience.  This short-term disruption will result in an arrangement that is easier to use and makes better use of our space.
Almost Halfway There with RFID Project

Volunteers have so far helped us RFID tag over 31,000 library items. RFID stands for "radio frequency identification." It's a faster, more accurate way to check in and out items.

If you'd like to help, please contact us at volunteers@sedonalibrary.org or by calling 928.282.7714. No computer or technical experience is necessary.

Dog Days of July

Therapy dogDelta-certified therapy dogs and their handlers will be at the Sedona Library during the second and third weeks of July. Any interested child is welcome to visit with the dog of the day, perhaps Apache, Mingus, Raven, or Ty, pictured here.  If a child reads a story aloud, they are sure to make the dog's day!

Ty will be the first reading buddy to visit and will be in the Children's Room on Tuesday, July 10, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Check out the Sedona Library events calendar for more summer activities for youth, including the very popular Sedona Youth Theatre Workshop for ages 10-18.

These new workstations are dedicated to individuals researching and applying for jobs, creating resumes and cover letters, starting businesses, furthering their education, and improving computer and other skills.

Each computer features Office 2010, resume creation software, and an attached printer offering printing, scanning, and copying.

For more information about the new jobs computers or to sign up to use one, stop by the Reference Desk.

Anniversary Celebration Highlights
Anniversary mural
Sedona Public Library celebrated 18 years in its current location on White Bear Road on June 6, 2012.  At the event, we unveiled a new, 30-foot courtyard mural, which was designed and painted by Sedona Red Rock High School art students under the direction of muralist and library trustee Gary Rubin.

Highlights of the celebration can be found on the Library's YouTube channel by clicking here.
New Members Elected to Board of Trustees
At the June 19 annual meeting of the Library's Board of Trustees, two longstanding trustees retired and two new members were elected to begin three-year terms.  The volunteer Board of Trustees is responsible for administering the affairs of the Library, a nonprofit organization that provides the services of a public library through contracts with local government.

The board is grateful for the service of two trustees who have contributed significantly to future growth and sustainability of the Library in our community.  Sheila Hoffmeyer joined the board in 2006, served as president for three years, and led many changes.  Roger Shlonsky, Treasurer, worked closely with the Library's business manager to improve and streamline accounting practices.

The FY2013 board is pleased to welcome new members Abbie Denton Lander and Lynda Brown, Ph.D.  Serving on the board this year are President Anne Uruburu, President-Elect Pat Jansen, Treasurer Abbie Denton Lander, Past Interim President-Elect Annette Lustgarten,  Secretary Sandy Immerso, and Members-at-Large Jan Aranoff, Harvey Bershader, Lynda Brown, Laura Lawrie, Gary Rubin, and Pat Whitfield.
