Judy has been using this simple fold-dying technique with both children and adults for many years. It can be messy, fun and yields, sometimes, surprising results. We will experiment with clothing dyes, food coloring, permanent artist's inks, and natural dyes.  In general, the more precise that you are, the more symmetrical your results. Those of you who know Judy know that she is not interested in precision and uses her papers, for the most part, in collages.  Come experiment to see how creative you can be!

Oct. 20 & 21, with both morning and afternoon classes each day
9-12 & 1-4
$120.00 for both days, all materials included
Decorative papers give Artists Books their unique appearance and remind us of how much fun it was as a kid to make a mess playing with paints, glue, crayons.  Each morning we'll make  beautiful papers for handmade books or book covers.  We'll try different techniques: Orizomegami, a fold and dye technique, make wax resist papers using batik methods, use common materials found around the house to create one-of-a-kind works. Fun using different materials and tools.  Each afternoon we'll learn different bookmaking models that include our decorative papers.

Holiday Gift Playshop
Dec 9 from 9-12 and 1-4
$30 for morning or afternoon session or $50 for all day
All materials included
In the morning we'll make a cut paper lantern from envelopes, translucent paper and skewers.  This lantern has a clever hinge that allows for making connections to the other envelopes. The afternoon session will focus on origami paper projects that can be used as gifts and cards: a poinsettia flower book, a folded 5 pointed star ornament, origami picture frame ornaments and pop-up boxes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

A handmade card is an expression of caring and community

In response to strong interest, The Card Project is collecting handmade postcards and folded greeting cards to donate to hospitals and community centers in December.

At the October, November and December PaperWorks meetings, we'll have our red mailbox out to collect cards. We have extra envelopes for any folded cards that need them. For this activity, it's fine to write something on the card, but please keep in mind that the cards will be distributed to people of all faiths. If you'd like to write Paperworks 2016 somewhere on the card, that's fine too.

Again, thank you to the many generous artists who contributed more than 200 cards to Casa de la Luz Hospice in the spring.
