Administrative
Leadership Program (ALP)
|
What is the Administrative Leadership Program (ALP)?
CCCOE-ALP is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as a Professional Preparation Program for the Clear Administrative Services Credential (formerly referred to as the Tier II Professional Clear Administrative Services Credential). In partnership with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), CCCOE-ALP provides high-quality, researched-based professional learning and development for new leaders. Credential candidates expand and deepen their leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviors through individualized, job-embedded induction.
Program highlights include:
- One-on-one coaching by an experienced administrator
- Assisting and supporting participants in their administrative roles
- Advancing the knowledge and skills of participants in relation to the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSELs)
- Helping administrators lead, reflect, and grow capacity
- Candidates complete a portfolio based on an Individual Induction Plan, setting goals and outlining their experiences and growth as new leaders. Upon completion of the two-year program, candidates will be recommended for the Clear Administrative Services Credential.

The 2016-2017 Distinguished Speaker Series
|
Over the past 21 years, the Distinguished Speaker Series (DSS) attracts more than 1,000 educators per year from 5 local counties and over 30 regional school districts. Internationally renowned speakers, authors and consultants have been inspiring participants to make a difference in their classroom, school and community.
Dates and location: October 22, December 3, January 28, March 4, April 8, and May 13, all seminars are held 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.;

Fun Exchanges & Activities for Science Teachers (FEAST)
|
Have you been looking for new, exciting, teacher-tested ideas for your science classroom? Or perhaps you've wanted to have a discussion about science resources, safety in the lab, or how other teachers manage a certain science demonstration, or other activity? Or maybe you simply want to network with other science teachers and build a lasting friendship with other science educators. If this is what you're looking for, we welcome you to FEAST. FEAST is truly a grass roots effort that began with a small group of about eight secondary science teachers in the fall of 2005.

Contra Costa County NGSS Institute

Explore the Next Generation Science Standards through the lenses of Phenomena, Crosscutting Concepts, and Engineering. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the NGSS and the impact for student learning. After diving deep into the NGSS, participants will receive tools and time to plan a scope and sequence of NGSS learning for their grade level.

CCCOE Literacy Workshop to Support Lexia & Reading Plus

Teachers new to Lexia Reading Core5 or Reading Plus. You are invited to learn more about these two
award-winning programs that are currently used in many districts and sites throughout the county.
The training will include an introduction to the program, tips on getting started, best practices of use, suggested implementation models, and time to explore the key reports and instructional materials available.

Creativity as a Habit In - and Beyond - the Classroom

Unprofessional Development is a call to put creativity at the root of all learning. This full day workshop will engage participants with creative thinking both in and beyond the classroom. Participants will leave with a personal toolkit of readings, case studies, planning tools, and activities that can be used in the classroom immediately. Project WET Training
|
Project WET training and curriculum is for teachers of all backgrounds and grades for a day dedicated to helping educators incorporate information about water conservation, the water cycle, and all things water into the classroom. Project WET is an annual water education training day that the Contra Costa Water District sponsors for educators. The event is hosted by renowned water education instructor, Brian Brown of the Water Education Foundation, who is phenomenal at creating engaging curriculum that also meets NGSS and CCSS! Using Discourse Tools to Engage in Equitable Sense-Making in Science (K-8)
|
Come explore this one-day workshop on how teachers and elementary and middle school students engaged in the science practices can use discourse tools to promote more equitable knowledge-building in classrooms with ELs. More than language supports are needed for equitable sense-making discourse for knowledge production
with ELs. In this session, the group works together to answer the following question, "How can
discourse tools be used for not only supporting language and discourse, but also for removing persistent
exclusions of EL's ideas in knowledge-building?"

School Climate & Student Engagement Series: Human Trafficking
|
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery and a fundamental violation of a person's human rights. Given the trafficking trends throughout the world, we know that the East Bay region, and more specifically Contra Costa County, is not immune to the plight of trafficked and exploited persons.
The average age of entry into human sex trafficking is 12 - some of our students may already be targeted by exploiters.
This training will focus on the following areas:

Northern California Safe and Healthy Schools Conference

CCCOE Distinguished Speaker Series:
Diving into 3-Dimensional Learning and the Next Generation of Science Standards
|
Lappan-Phillips Professor of Science Education and director of the CREATE for STEM Institute at Michigan State University Joseph Krajcik will explore with the participants the central position that making sense of phenomena plays in science teaching and the NGSS. During the workshop, participants will experience making sense of phenomena and reflect on how the experience relates to NGSS. He will engage participants in the meaning of each of the dimensions - core disciplinary ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts - as well as explain the importance of developing student understanding across time. Woven throughout his remarks, Joe will discuss the opportunities and challenges of using 3-dimensional learning to support students in sense making.

making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. Use the

14th Annual Get Real Academy

The 14h Annual Get Real Academy, presented by Soroptimist International, is a life-skills conference for high school senior girls focusing on life after high school. Seminars throughout the day will include such topics as money management, women's health, domestic and workplace violence issues, insurance, career success, and job search tips. The California ShakeOut drill is held annually on the third Thursday of October each year. (Other states are also holding ShakeOut drills.) More than 10.5 million Californians participated in 2015, practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On, as well as other aspects of family, school, and organizational emergency plans. 12th Annual Shelter-in-Place Day
|
Put this date on your calendar today! Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER) invites all schools to practice and improve their site emergency procedures for shelter-in-place by taking part in this 11th annual county-wide exercise. Guidelines for this program will be sent out to all districts and school principals later this summer (reminder post cards have recently been mailed out). Schools can use the time for training, running brief drills, or conducting more detailed emergency exercises.

Bay Area Science Festival

More than 200 science, technology, and engineering organizations from across the Bay Area will present the fun and excitement of science, through hands-on and interactive exhibits, science-themed performances and demonstrations, and family-oriented entertainment.

California Student Mock Election
|
The 2016 Presidential election cycle is here and it is once again time to get students involved and excited about civics. The California Secretary of State and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction are partnering to host another California Student Mock Election on Tuesday, October 11. This program helps young people experience the importance of elections and the power their vote has in our democracy. This year it builds on the excitement of a Presidential election by giving California's high school and middle school students a chance to have their say on who they want to be the next President of the United States. Once their votes are counted, students can compare their choices to those of their peers at schools from all over the state. Safeway funds grant applications for communities where stores are located. Grants should focus on Safeway's priorities, including education. 2016 Contra Costa County Attendance Awareness Poster Contest

Contra Costa County students, grades 6-12, are encouraged to use their creativity and poster-making skills to tell us why
"Every School Day Counts: Attend today, achieve for a lifetime!" This year's poster theme is
"School is your first and most important job!" Winning poster makers will receive $100 in gift cards, and their posters will appear on local transit buses around the county!

Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society

The Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society will gladly organize an astronomy night for your school, youth group, or community organization. The organization's members volunteer their time and their telescopes to bring the universe to you. They also provide knowledgeable speakers and activities on various astronomy topics, either in a classroom or in a meeting setting.

Contra Costa Community Warning System
|
The Contra Costa County Community Warning System (CWS) is a comprehensive system designed to alert the public in the county of imminent threats to life or health. The system was developed by the Community Awareness and Emergency Response organization (CAER) and is operated by the Office of the Sheriff.
The CWS mission is to alert the public of imminent threats to life or health, inform the public of basic hazard information and guide them to resources to gather more detailed information.
The CWS uses a variety of tools to reach the public as quickly and reliably as possible such as:
- Telephone notification (cell and landline)
- Email
- Texting
- Social Media (Facebook and Twitter)
- Sirens
- Radio and TV
- NOAA Weather Radios
- Cable Television
