October 2016
Cash Cow

There was one winner in our CA$H COW contest last month. Congrats to Lisa Kanagy of Grundy Center for finding a $5 jug! Since no one found a $100 jug in September, there will be eight jugs marked with $100 in October.

Every month we mark several of our gallon milk jugs with either $5 or $100 under the label. Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100". There are 10 jugs EVERY WEEK marked with a $5.00 prize.

It's American Cheese Month! The goal of the month-long celebration is to raise awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses, as well as to increase support for family farms and traditional cheese production methods. Our coupon helps celebrate the month with an extra 5% off all cheeses. Click to print coupon from our website.

Photo of the Month

The October Photo of the Month features our two kangaroos, Razz and Pogo, feasting on a treat of wheat bread from Reese Hansen. The kangaroos are enjoying the cooler weather of fall and are looking forward to a few more visitors before the tour season is done! If you have never petted a kangaroo, now is your chance. Visit our website for tour information and schedule your hands-on tour before Nov. 1.

Customer of the Month
Lindsey Christensen
The October Customer of the Month is Lindsey Christensen of Waterloo.

Lindsey, like many of our customers, has been answering some of our contest questions on Facebook. Every Tuesday, we post a different question about our products. If you comment, you are entered into a drawing to win a free gallon of milk!

"I've never met a Hansen's Dairy product I didn't adore!" says Lindsey. "Cake Batter or Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in a sugar cone is a favorite for sure, but my everyday staple is Hansen's skim milk. The quality of milk is so top-notch that even the non-fat tastes far better than other stores' 2%. The friendly staff and the premium products make Hansen's Dairy Waterloo a place I am proud to support!"

Thanks, Lindsey! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and hands-on tour passes to visit the farm. Submit your entries at each  of  our stores in Waterloo and Cedar Falls. You could also be selected from your comments on Facebook.

Cow of the Month
The October Cow of the Month is Lawsey . Lawsey is a very special individual. She is easy to work with and loves attention. She recently had her second calf, which we named Licorice.

This "L" family has a history of longevity. In fact, Licorice's great-great-great Grandma, Len, is still milking on the farm today! This family has produced nearly 500,000 pounds of milk going back to Len (6 generations back). That is awesome! If any of you have taken a tour of the farm and seen a cow roaming free around the farm, that's Len. Because she is a great cow and is our oldest (12 years old), she gets the special treatment of being free-range so she can move around the farm at her own pace.

Licorice is a Red-and-White Holstein that is polled (no horns)! We look forward to more great genetics from this girl and her offspring!

Getting a head-start on the holidays
Ready to order a turkey for Thanksgiving or Christmas? We have two options. All turkeys are minimally processed, no antibiotics are given, and no basting ingredients or artificial ingredients are added. To order, stop by or call our stores in Waterloo (319-234-3309) or Cedar Falls (319-266-3044).

1. Groothuis Farms Turkeys
Craig and Darlene Groothuis raise free-range turkeys near Nashua, Iowa. From the beginning of November, we will have a limited number of turkeys available in the heavier weight ranges. Last year the turkeys ranged in weight from 16 to 20 pounds.  They are sold FROZEN.

2. Bell and Evans Turkeys
Bell and Evans heirloom turkeys are raised on a farm in Pennsylvania. The turkeys are fed an all-vegetarian diet, never given antibiotics, and their meat is considered "light" by USDA standards. Turkeys are raised specifically for our order. As of early November we will have turkeys available in the 6-16 pound weight range.  These turkeys are sold FRESH for Thanksgiving.

Hansen's Hams are once again available for the upcoming holidays. If you purchased a ham from us last year, expect a call from us to see if you'd like another one this year.

Hansen's Hams are available again this year from Webster City Custom Meats in Webster City, Iowa. They are bone-in, shankless, cured only with their own natural juices, certified hickory-smoked hams made especially for Hansen's customers. There are two sizes: half hams (7-9 pounds, serve 10) and whole hams (15-18 pounds, serve 20).

If you're not already on our call list for hams, please call one of the stores (the one at which you shop the most) and ask about ordering a ham.

Are you looking for an uncured ABF (antibiotic-free) ham for your Thanksgiving dinner? This year we will be offering a limited number of orders for Beeler's ABF Hams. Beeler's hams are uncured and fully cooked. With limited supply, we recommend contacting us as soon as you know what size you need. We will have a limited supply of whole hams (14-15 pounds) and half hams (7-8 pounds).
These hams are on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you would like one, be sure to call your preferred Hansen's store and reserve yours today! Beeler's hams are out of Lemars, Iowa. For more information on Beeler's Pork, visit their website. We do regularly carry other wonderful Beeler's products regularly in our stores.

Thanksgiving ham orders: If you are celebrating Thanksgiving early, feel free to call if you'd like to place an order ahead of time!

NOTE: If you order a ham from the Cedar Falls store, you will pick it up there. Customers who order from the Waterloo store will pick up there.

We are able to ship hams for you if needed. Shipping and packaging charges will apply, but we are happy to help you.
