President, Hebrew SeniorLife Health Care Services and Hebrew Rehabilitation Center

Dear colleagues,

It has been a busy spring for staff. Members of Hebrew Rehabilitation Center's T.E.L.L. (Together Enriching Lives Liaisons) Committee shared their own culture change journeys along the path to reinventing long-term care and how T.E.L.L. has impacted them and the organization in a webinar for the Pioneer Network.

Hebrew SeniorLife was proud to be a Gold Sponsor of "A Map Through the Maze," a conference for Alzheimer’s Care Professionals sponsored by the Alzheimer's Association of MA/NH. HSL employees Heather Dexter, LICSW, Hali Diecidue, MA, BCC, Jenna O'Brien, and Robin Stewart, MAC presented a workshop titled, "Quality of Life Interventions for Care Partners and Individuals with Dementia," and Eddy Ang, MD, physician on the Rehabilitative Services Unit at HRC Boston, presented "Emerging Technologies to Support Care for Individuals with Cognitive Impairment."

I had the pleasure of representing Hebrew SeniorLife at the New England Society for Health Care Strategy’s annual spring conference, where I spoke about Hebrew SeniorLife's experiences creating successful partnerships for risk-based payments. It was an informative day of learning and sharing with our health care peers and colleagues.

Jody Comart, PhD, managing director of the Palliative Care Program and a chaplain at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, will be speaking at the Massachusetts Hospital Association's 80th Annual Meeting on June 8th. She will be joined by renowned end-of-life medical ethicist, Director of Ethics and Palliative Care Programs at BIDMC and advisor to The Conversation Project Lachlan Forrow, MD and Bruce Auerbach, MD, president and CEO of Sturdy Memorial and a member of The Conversation Project staff. Their session is called, "Caring for People the Way They Would Want Through the End of Life: How Will We Get There?"

We look forward to ushering in a bright, new season with staff, residents and patients. Read on to learn about some important advice to share with patients on preventing delirium from IFAR scientist Dr. Sharon Inouye and new happenings at HSL.
