Provost steps up while President Emerita Sharon Hahs starts her retirement
On Friday, Dr. Sharon Hahs ended her decade-long tenure as University President, capping off a 42-year career in public higher education. Shortly after she announced her retirement, Northeastern's Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Dr. Richard Helldobler as Interim President. He joined the University in 2013 as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
As the University's chief academic officer he held responsibility for all matters related to academics, including the oversight of four colleges, the library, admissions, recruitment and other areas. Prior to Northeastern, he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Shepherd University as well as Associate Provost/Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at California University of Pennsylvania.
Helldobler holds a number of significant achievements to his name, including the creation of academic programming for Northeastern's
El Centro
location, which opened in 2014. He also created the
Center for College Access and Success
, which partners with teachers, parents and neighborhood communities to improve educational equity and excellence for students so that they will succeed in college and beyond. A million-dollar marketing campaign, which he worked in cooperation with other departments to launch, has helped to raise the profile of excellence of Northeastern students and faculty.
Dr. Helldobler earned his Ph.D. in Theater and a Master of Arts in Speech and Theater from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from The University of Toledo.

Diversity Community Job and Volunteer Fair set for Thursday afternoon
Northeastern's Career Development Center and Student Leadership Development office joins the Albany Park Community Center, the Chicago Korean Chamber of Commerce, the Pulaski Elston Business Associates Inc. and the Peterson Pulaski Business Industrial Council in presenting the Fall 2016 Diversity Community Job and Volunteer Fair. The event will take place in Alumni Hall of NEIU's Main Campus between noon and 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 6. The primary purpose of this event is to promote career information, as well as employment, internships and volunteer opportunities to University students and alumni, as well as talented community professionals.

Jewel Box Series brings Phildanco to Northeastern
Presented by the Jewel Box Series and the Ruth Page Dance Series, the Philadelphia Dance Company, Philadanco, represents the highest quality of professional dance. Philadanco improves the skills of emerging and professional dancers and choreographers in a nurturing environment, while increasing the appreciation of dance among its many communities. Across the nation and around the world, Philadanco is celebrated for its innovation, creativity and preservation of predominantly African-American traditions in dance. Join us for a special performance on Friday, October 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Main Campus.

November comes early to Northeastern's Stage Center Theater
David Mamet's new Oval Office satire depicts one day in the life of a beleaguered American commander-in-chief. It's November in a Presidential election year, and incumbent Charles Smith's chances for reelection are looking grim. Come see this production at the Stage Center Theater with performances scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on October 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22, with a special matinee at 2 p.m. on October 15.
