The success of the Emerging Enterprise Center (EEC) and its programs like the Swim with the Sharks (SWTS) Video Pitch Competition seems to grow every year. This year, the EEC's SWTS Video Pitch Competition's fourth year, there were many participants and the winner was announced by live vote at the 1st Annual EEC Luncheon at the World Cafe Live at the Queen on Friday, September 23rd.

For the past 3 years, the SWTS competition has been a huge success and a part of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce's Annual Dinner. The EEC felt that the accomplishments of the finalists and the winners needed to be highlighted in their own venue. So the 1st Annual EEC Luncheon was formed to create a focal point on the competition and the finalists.

Video has become such a very important part of business now. So the EEC created workshops throughout the year designed to help the business community and those attempting to submit a video to the competition. The luncheon not only created a focal point on the SWTS videos but also on the EEC and its success since its inception. From the beginning, the EEC, the only small business incubator in Delaware, has focused on helping start-up businesses be successful in growing their business and creating jobs in New Castle County. The EEC wanted to drive home to its luncheon attendees that since 2008, the EEC has worked with 31 start-up companies that have produced revenues in excess of $43 million and created 153 jobs in the county. Most of those companies have have graduated have gone on to continue adding revenues and jobs to the economy.

The SWTS  Competition, for companies that have been in business for less than three years, provides an opportunity to gain exposure and win a $5,000 grand prize package of cash and services. The participants  submit a three-minute video pitch showcasing their company and describing how the prize package will be used to promote their business.

Amira Idris, founder of Vibrating Therapeutic Apparel, received a record 55 percent of live mobile phone votes after impressing attendees with her company's invention, a sleeve that uses vibration therapy to help people with amputated limbs better manage phantom limb pain.  To her surprise, the Prize Package which totaled over $5,000 in Cash and Professional Services was increased by 50%, by presenting sponsor, Williams Humphreys & Company, just minutes before she was announced as the competition's grand prize winner.

The EEC is excited to begin its relationship with Vibrating Therapeutic Apparel as well as the other two finalists NERDiT NOW and Jade Biotech

Look on the EEC calendar for this event next year in September 2017.
