Kenneth Pienta, M.D. (Med '86)  was awarded $1M for prostate cancer research. 
$1 Million 'Movember' Honor 
Alumnus awarded for prostate cancer research 

The Prostate Cancer Foundation recently announced that Kenneth Pienta, M.D. (Med '86), director of research for the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine, and his team were recipients of one of five new Movember Foundation-Prostate Cancer Foundation Challenge Awards to advance new treatments and cures for prostate cancer. Pienta's research team, which received $1 million, is utilizing novel single-cell biotechnologies to study dormant tumor cells that reside in the bone marrow of prostate cancer patients and may eventually reactivate and develop into metastases. Medicine for the Greater Good  
Future alum rediscovers passion for helping others 

After starting medical school, Anila Chaudhary, Class of 2018, eagerly wanted to step out of the classroom and into the community. Medicine for the Greater Good (MGG) allowed her to do just that. The organization bridges the gap between the hospital and the community.

"MGG changed the way I viewed medicine, and it gave me the confidence and the hope that I can, as an individual, as a future practitioner, make a difference in the lives of those around me - whether they come in to see me in the clinic or whether I go to them in a community," she said.   Read more

'He Should Not Be Forgotten'
Endowment Fund supports Gyn-Ob  residents in honor of late director

John Griffith, M.D., M.P.H. was a full-time assistant professor in the School of Medicine and director of the Fibroid Center for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics when he died tragically in 2007. Now his legacy endures through the John G. Griffith, MD, Endowment Fund, which distributes annual awards to two Gyn-Ob residents.

Meghana Desale, M.D. (Med '13) used her Griffith International Training Initiative grant to work at a remote clinic in the jungle of Maharasthra, India.  Read more
