Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful week here at Dowell. Next week is the last week of the 1st nine weeks. Please remind your child that if they are missing any assignments or need to make up a summative grade, to go to tutoring with their teacher next week. Please remember that Monday, October 10th is a student holiday and our office will be closed. Hope everyone enjoys the cool weather this weekend.

Next week from October 11th - 14th, turn your box tops in to your science teacher. The class with the most box tops will win a popcorn party on Halloween!

Tee shirts are $12.00 each. Order forms (in the front office) will be accepted until Tuesday, October 11th.
Students that purchase a shirt will get to make a tunnel for our athletes on competition days! Proceeds benefit the McKinney ISD Special Olympic teams.

Thank you parents for reminding your students to attend the Academic UIL kick-off Monday, we had a great turn out! If your student was not able to attend and wants to participate, it is not too late! Have them go to our Academic UIL website, www.acadowell.weebly.com, and complete the Google form under the sign-up link. Practices will begin next week, October 11th.

It's time to get PINK! On Wednesday, October 12, students and staff of Dowell Middle School will be wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. 

People will be wearing bright pink to florescent fuchsia and everything in between. Whether you go all out or just wear a hint of pink is totally up to you. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research. "PINK OUT" day is aimed at getting as many people as possible involved in raising awareness. 
National Dyslexia Awareness Month
In the spirit of National Dyslexia Awareness Month, Decoding Dyslexia Texas - McKinney, with support from McKinney ISD, will host a special screening of the film:

"Roadtrip Nation - Being You"

Wednesday, Oct. 26th at 6:00 p.m. at the MISD Greer Annex.
 
"Being You" is a documentary film produced by career exploration organization, Roadtrip Nation, in partnership with Understood.org, the leading online resource for parents of children with learning and attention issues. 

This event is free and open to all people interested in learning more about dyslexia and learning differences.
