Soberanes Fire becomes costliest to fight in US history
Big Sur- The Soberanes Fire is now the costliest blaze to suppress in U.S. history, according to National Interagency Fire Center data. The center estimates the cost of fighting the blaze at $197.8 million. According to U.S. Forest Service, the long duration of the fire plays a big role in the cost of the fire.       Monterey Herald

San Jose Pays Tribute to  
15yr Anniversary of 9-11





 
    
Some of the newest San Jose Fire Fighters participated in this years 9/11 tribute climb. Climbers competed a total of 110 floors in 4 accents of the Renaissance Tower in Sacramento. 343 firefighters in total participated in full turnout gear as a tribute to the 343 members of the FDNY who perished 15 years ago.

Chief says 12 firefighters to be let go if grant to fund them not awarded by Friday. Salinas false fire alarm fees raised for repeat offenders
Fees for initial false fire alarms have been lowered while fees for repeat offenders have been raised in hopes of reducing the fire department's costs for responding to the hundreds of false fire alarms that occur every year, mostly due to lack of maintenance.     The Californian

A 68-year-old Thurston County woman was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly brandished a replica shotgun at firefighters who had responded to a medical alarm at her mobile home.

The parents of fallen Mount Marion Fire Department Capt. Jack Rose have filed a lawsuit alleging negligence on the part of the owner of the home where Rose succumbed while fighting a fire in December 2015.     Daily Freeman

2nd Alarm

9.8.16 Phelan Ave                                      Station 26 

Multiple calls regarding smoke coming from an auto body shop.  Squad 26 arrived on scene and reported smoke coming from two separate stores.  A 2nd Alarm was called and HIT29A and HIT29B were dispatched due to the details involving placards and the knowledge that chemicals involved in auto body shops. Both fires were knocked down after 30 minutes.


9.17.16 Pettigrew Ct.                                       Station 24
Fire Communications dispatched a Full First for one call reporting a house on fire. E24 reported smoke showing while en route and located a working house fire upon arrival. No injuries were reported and all appropriate notifications were made

9.18.16 Monterey Rd                                       Station 27
Fire Communications dispatched a Full First Alarm Assignment to a report of a structure fire. Engine 27 arrived on scene and reported a small out building on fire at a lumber yard. The fire was knocked down after 30 minues. B13 requested HIT29 to respond. A building inspector was also requested to assist in determining who the property belonged to.  There were no injuries reported.


2nd Alarm

9.19.16 Lieb Court                                         Station 21
Communications dispatched a full first to multiple reports of a house fire. Heavy smoke was reported while units were enroute and a second alarm was requested. The fire was kept to the structure with gas and power lines involved. PG&E expedited their response. One fire fighter was treated for injuries. 

9.19.16 Madera Ave.                                   Station 5
Communications dispatched a full first to a report of a house fire. Arriving units confirmed heavy smoke from the structure and it was contained to the structure. The incident was knocked down at after 1.5 hours. One fire fighter was treated for injuries.  Red Cross was requested for 8 individuals.

RESCUE

9.23.16 NB 880 N. of Stevens Crk                 Station 2  
Fire Communications dispatched a rescue response after receiving calls reporting an overturned vehicle. E10 arrived on scene at 0447 hours and reported a three vehicle accident with one vehicle on its roof, another vehicle on top of a motorcycle.  The incident involved one patient with their legs trapped.  The patient was extricated at 0504 hours and was transported to a local hospital.

VEGETATION FIRE  
 
9.12.16 Cape Horn Ct                             Station 34  
Fire Communications dispatched E24 to a report of vegetation on fire. E34 arrived at 1229 hours and reported a 100x100 area of involvement and requested the balance of a Tier at 1232 hours. The fire was knocked down at 1242 hours and placed under control at 1320 hours.

9.18.16 Corie Court/Oakland Road               Station 5
Engine 5 to reports of an outside fire in the creek area.  E5 arrived on scene and requested a TIER response advising that the fire was 100x100 feet in heavy brush heading toward the mobile home park at 900 Golden Wheel Park Drive.  An additional structure response was dispatched to the mobile home park for structure protection.  Red Cross was requested for 4 displaced adults.

9.18.16 Ridder Park Dr./East Brokaw Rd          Station 5
Fire Communications dispatched Engine 7 and Engine 29 to reports of a grass fire behind Lowe's.  B2 attached to the event and requested a TIER response after observing a vegetation fire on the west side of the creek with access problems.  SJPD and CHP were requested for traffic control.

9.19.16 Taylor @ Hwy 87                               Station 1
Communications dispatched an engine to a report of a grass fire near the Guadalupe trail. While enroute, 2 additional units were attached to the event. The call was upgraded to a Tier due to multiple spot fires and access issues. The fire(s) were knocked down and the incident was under control after 2 hours
9.28.16 Berryessa Rd                                  Station 5
Single unit dispatched to a report a vegetation fire in the creek. Engine 5 arrived on scene of a large fire in the creek and trees approximately 100 feet by 150 feet. A Tier response was requested along with the closest available unit. The fire was contained after 1 hours.

9.30.16 NB 680/101                                 Station 16
Communications received multiple calls reporting a vegetation fire in the area of the 280/680/101 interchange and multiple fire units were dispatched to the various locations reported.  The first arriving fire unit reported approximately 2 acres burning and requested a TIER response.  The fire was knocked down at 1259 hours and under control at 1356 hours.    

HIGH RISE

9.23.16 O'Conner Hospital                    Station 10
Fire Communications dispatched a HIRISE response after receiving calls from an alarm reporting a water flow alarm and the site stating that there was an actively flowing sprinkler.  Engine 10 arrived on scene and requested a HIRISE Level 2.  Smoke was found in the electrical room.  The incident was under control after 1.5 hours.
