Sunday School

At Calvary we use the ECC Curriculum developed at Virginia Theological Seminary. This year we are using the "Shell Year" curriculum. During October and November, all the classes will be learning about the Old Testament. Our Beginners will learn about Creation, our Primary class will lean about the first five books of the Bible, and our Intermediate and Junior Youth will study the meaning of Covenant. For an outline of topics for the year click here. You may learn more about the curriculum and download materials at click here

A Teacher's Reflection:
.
Greetings, this is Emily Sityar, beginning my eleventh year as co-teacher of Calvary's Junior Youth Class and first year as administrator of Sunday School. This past month during Children's Chapel, the Sunday School children have been learning two songs, complete with hand gestures: "Be still and know that God is here" and "Jesus loves me." How fitting it is to start our year learning to be open to God's presence and abiding love!

Sunday School Songs

Knowing how beneficial music can be in our journey through life, with your help, Children's Chapel will introduce our children to a new hymn each month.  Ellie Yuhasz and Carol Mayo teach us to sing together every week.  In September, we learned Jesus Loves Me.  Our song for October will be:   Thank You, God, for Loving CareRead More

Stewardship Season

October is Stewardship Season at Calvary, Children are part of all that we do, and so they can pledge, too! The practice of giving some of their money to make all that we do here possible can start a lifetime habit of sharing joyfully. We are teaching them to Love, Care & Give. In Children's Chapel this month we will talk about the many ways we care for the world-for the people around us, for the earth, for our pets, for our possessions. Together, we may not change the entire world, but we can certain change a small part of it - which is all Jesus asks of us. Just as you did it to the least of these, you did it to me. [Matthew 25.40] Please help your child learn what pledging means. By all of us giving some of our money, together we make everything we do here at Calvary possible.

A New Community Youth Choir Program
When: Beginning in January 2017: 4:30-6:30 one day/week
Where: Calvary Church
Who: Boys and girls in grades 2-12, including Calvary families and friends
Contact: Alex Benestelli (633-7800; [email protected])

Here at Calvary Church we would like to offer a new musical education to boys and girls from the greater Williamsville & Amherst community. We are thinking about a choir that would be open to boys and girls in grades 2 through 12. The choir would be committed to musical excellence, building community values, and social development. The choir would rehearse once a week after school and sing a brief service of Choral Evensong after rehearsal. Together they will work up to singing Choral Evensong occasionally on Sunday afternoon with the rest of the Parish Choir and possibly with other children's choirs from the region. By limiting the commitment to one weeknight and occasional Sunday afternoons, we hope to extend a welcome to families from Calvary, from other churches in our area, and to the whole Williamsville community.

We plan to have a meeting in October for interested parents and youth. Watch for more information.

Acolytes I will go to the altar of God / To the God of my joy and gladness.

Acolytes actively assist the clergy in leading the worship of God. Acolytes often find their service is not only fun, but also spiritually fulfilling. Serve with dignity, humility, and care, always with love of Christ. We welcome you to this ministry If you are in 4th grade or higher. We work with your schedule: it's not an "every Sunday" commitment, and you will get training and practice so that you will feel comfortable at the altar. We will have a training on Sunday October 23rd, after the 10 am service. It will last until about 1. If you and your parents would like to learn more please contact Doug Sandburg II at: [email protected]>

They are like trees planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither; everything they do shall prosper. [Psalm 1:3]
