What a great way to start the weekend! The weather was beautiful and so were the birds. Spring was in the air today and that was just fine with my fellow Saturday Birders. Watch the slide show for all of the wonderful pics we took today.

Bird of the Day:
Common Goldeneye -
Bucephala clangula

Our Bird of the Day, the Common Goldeneye, could be described as one of the clowns of the bird world. They have a striking and bold appearance and they are often displaying odd behavior which we witnessed today. This odd behavior is actually territorial/breeding behavior which they engage in for the better part of the year. These displays often include neck stretches, flapping displays, and frequent head throws so that their heads rest on their backs. It's all serious business for the Goldeneyes, but it looks pretty silly to us.
