Saturday, February 14, 2015 Bird Walk

It felt very unwinter-like this morning, and in fact, a tree swallow was spotted at Teller Pond just a few hours after we were there. So the changes are coming, but maybe one step back before we get too excited about the changing seasons. Ducks are everywhere right now. Is there anything as gaudy as male ducks in spring?

Note: I will be not be on the walk on February 21st. Folks will still show up and go on a walk so don't be shy if you want to enjoy the morning with fellow bird minded people.

Great Horned Owl

  Great Horned Owl

It seems a little bit like cheating to go see the owls at Twin Lakes. They are on eggs now so, of course, they are going to be on and near their nest. Not a lot of effort needed to see these owls. What really made our trip special this morning was finding and dissecting an owl pellet. See the slide show for more images of the mouse bits we found inside the pellet.
