Dear Saint Rose Families,
This has been a week of faculty professional development. Wednesday was an especially busy day. Our two hour late start was spent with Peggy Reihl, the diocese's Educator Consultant. The diocese's Life Skills program was her focus, along with project based learning. Life Skills is a great program that strives to educate our students about the different attributes they will need to develop in life to be successful. Much of the emphasis is on social, academic and spiritual development.
Wednesday after school the language arts teachers spent time with Patricia Ludick. Pat brings her many years of international professional development leadership in education to our teachers as they communicate and collaborate on the vertical alignment of our language arts program. Our students tend to perform exceptionally well in language arts, and we believe that this process will only improve upon our success.
Our school strategic steering plan committee also met this week. The committee is planning for the specific areas of focus for the year as they were identified from our previous strategic plan process. A team of teachers, parents and parish representatives will look at improving the following areas in the school: technology, the relationships between the parish and the school, project based learning, language arts vertical alignment, and Saint Rose leadership in the community. Your input via the parent survey, as well as the leadership by different parents and community members contributed to our strategic plan. Our progress has been widespread, but there are still many ways that we can continue to improve our school.
Tomorrow the 6th grade will celebrate their annual retreat. They will spend a portion of the day at the church. They will have time for Mass and then spend time learning about global socioeconomic inequalities through a role-playing game. Later in the day they will travel to Toledo Grows to service and learn about the outreach that program provides in Central City Toledo. Mrs. Brahier, Mr. Kruse and Mr. Hagerty have worked hard to make this day possible for our 6th grade students. Please pray for the success of this retreat.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bryon Borgelt
Principal

Year of Mercy
Corporal Work of Mercy:
Feed the Hungry
Spiritual Work of Mercy:
Instruct the Ignorant
Global Education Initiative (Instruct the Ignorant): The children in refugee camps have few options and often stay for many years without the opportunity to receive an education. The Jesuit Relief Services' Mercy in Motion Global Education Initiative is October's recipient of our donations from alternate dress days and Mass offerings. This program provides educational opportunities for children in refugee camps around the world. An education is one of the only means for the children to become self-sufficient.
Please discuss this charitable work with your children at home. Thank you for your generous support.
