Shifting perspective is a common theme for me in my own sadhana (spiritual practice). For as many people who embrace the fall (yay for sweaters, scarves, and beautiful foliage!), there are likely as many people who, like me, struggle for balance and stability amidst the cooler and darker seasons.

I recently read  Ann Patchett's Sarah Lawrence commencement address, which was compiled in 2008 into a book called "What Now?" There were many great insights and inspiration throughout, but this passage, towards the end of the book,  caught my attention in regards to perspective...

"The secret is finding the balance between going out to get what you want and being open to the thing that actually winds up coming your way.

WHAT NOW is not just a panic-stricken question tossed out into a dark unknown.

WHAT NOW can also be our joy.

It is a declaration of possibility, of promise, of chance. It acknowledges that our future is open, that we may well do more than anyone expected of us, that at every point in our development we are still striving to grow.

Maybe this is the moment you shift from seeing WHAT NOW as one more thing to check off the list and start to see it as two words worth living by."

What kind of shifts are you embracing this fall!?

Namaste,
Kristi
