OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
Acting City Manager Richard H. Sloan

Dear Residents, Business Owners, Visitors and Colleagues:

At this point, you are all aware of Hurricane Matthew's projected path, which is very likely to affect the eastern part of the State of Florida. Hurricane Matthew has already claimed several lives in Haiti, so we cannot underestimate the impact this storm can cause. Let us learn from these terrible tragedies and understand the importance of being prepared.

The City of Haines City will be closing all government offices at 2 PM Thursday, October 6th (except emergency services), and will remain closed throughout the business day on Friday, October 7th. The City Commission Workshop and Meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 6th has been cancelled. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, October 10th.

In the event that we experience effects of this storm, it is our goal to restore all services in the most expeditious fashion. However, please make sure that your family has taken the steps to purchase water, non-perishable goods, as well as fueling your motor vehicles within adequate time.  Self-service sandbags are still available until 5 PM today at the Haines City Public Works Department, located at 300 N. 5th Street, Haines City, FL 33844.

Please keep those impacted by the storm, their families and the first responders that are, and will continue to put themselves in harm's way, in prayer.  The City of Haines City would like to maintain a culture of preparedness where our residents, visitors, businesses and property owners are vigilant during Hurricane Season. For more information and for frequent updates, please visit us at www.hainescity.com.

Sincerely,

Richard H. Sloan, MSCJ, CPM, FBINAA
Acting City Manager
