Dear Members and Fellow Pain Warriors,

I would thank each and every one of you for your unbelievable and inspiring efforts throughout Pain Awareness Month. Your bravery during September was above and beyond. We are so proud of the strength and resilience you shared with the world.

The U.S. Pain Foundation is continuing to raise awareness in the month of October with two of our biggest fundraisers of the year, including the unveiling of 2016 INvisible Project. We are truly honored to recognize and honor 2016's participants, which include "Children and their Families" and "Veterans."

As the weather changes, and pain levels soar, we want you to know that the U.S. Pain Foundation is here for you. We will continue fighting along side of you throughout your journey, and will never stop advocating for you.

Wishing you high-spirits and low-pain,

A Fundraiser for the U.S. Pain Foundation will be held at CrossFit Los Altos

For the past five years,  CrossFit Los Altos  with  Focused Individual Trainers  have hosted  Fight Gone Bad , a fundraiser workout, to benefit the work of U.S. Pain Foundation. This year's event will take place on Saturday, October 22, in Los Altos, CA.

With 1 in 3 Americans living with pain, most likely, every person has a connection to pain ...  and that is part of the reason we are so appreciative to CrossFit Los Altos for recognizing this plight and aligning with us to make a difference.

The funds raised this year through FGB will go to expanding the INvisible Project.
The goal is to raise $25,000.

While as an organization, we understand the majority of those living with pain might not be able to workout in such capacity, we encourage those in the pain community to support this endeavor. You can do so  by clicking the button below.

U.S. Pain's National Director of Policy and Advocacy Speaks Out For Pain Awareness

Cindy Steinberg, U.S. Pain Foundation's National Director of Policy and Advocacy spoke to a large group of second year medical students and neuroscience researchers on September 12th  at the University of New England (UNE) in Biddeford, ME as part of UNE's Pain Awareness Month activities. Cindy's talk was entitled "Inadequate Pain Care in America: How to Improve It Through Advocacy and Policy Change."  She spoke about the challenges people with pain face in seeking care, what people with pain most want from their healthcare providers, the root causes of inadequate pain care, and how we can improve pain care through policy change.

Cindy was also an invited speaker at the Academy of Integrated Pain Management Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas.  Cindy along with the Academy's Executive Director Bob Twillman, PhD and Robert Rich, MD discussed the CDC Guidelines in Primary Care Practice.  Cindy discussed the impact the Guidelines have had on patients since their release in March of this year reporting on various surveys that have been conducted that have demonstrated a marked increase in disruption in patient care, difficulty in accessing treatment and even widespread abandonment of people with chronic pain by healthcare providers fearful of sanctions for exceeding the Guidelines' medication dosages.

October 2016 marks the 31st "Talk About Your Medicines" Month. TAYMM is an annual opportunity to focus attention on the value that better medicine communication can play in promoting better medicine use and better health outcomes.

The 2016 TAYMM is focused on managing polypharmacy, the concurrent use of a large number of prescription medicines, over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins and dietary supplements - generally 5 or more - by the same person, at the same time. Polypharmacy can result in confusing medication regimens and schedules, and a concerning accumulation of side effects ("adverse drug events") or harmful drug interactions.

Initially created by NCPIE and our health education stakeholders as "Talk About Prescriptions Month," TAYMM has grown and expanded to stimulate conversations between consumers and their healthcare providers about all the types of medicines they may take, with a focus on what to know about a medication in terms of expected health outcomes, possible side effects, benefits and potential risks.

This year's TAYM program will include educational resources and social media messages focused on addressing and managing polypharmacy.  Click Here to get more information and resources for patients!
