We did it! God looked down upon us and held off the rain long enough for us to hold our annual Walk-a-thon. It was touch and go in the days leading up to the event, but we decided to take a chance and we're glad we did.

Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who were able to volunteer their time to help at the event or be on the side lines to cheer on our students. It is truly a fun event that allows us to combine physical exercise with raising money for our school.

And this year, we partnered with the Harvest Snaps company and gave out snap pea crisps along with a bottle of water to our students at the completion of their laps. For every two bags given to an SMA student, Harvest Snaps will donate .25 to the Table For Two program. Table For Two will then use the donation to provide healthy school meals to children in the US and East Africa. That means this year our Walk-a-thon had triple benefits!

I also wanted to alert you to the fact that first quarter progress reports were sent home today. Please review these with your child, looking for areas that they may need to put a little extra work into.

Sounds like we have some rain coming our way over the weekend. At this point, I don't mind saying, "let it rain!"

Enjoy a restful weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Food For Thought

From The Class of Mrs. Ruell - Kindergarten

Aaa-chooooo!

Do you know that when you sneeze your eyes close and air is forced out of your nose and mouth at 100 miles per hour! Germs can travel up to 36 feet when you sneeze or cough. The kindergarten children have been learning about germs and staying healthy at school. We have been practicing proper handwashing techniques and the correct way to sneeze or cough into our elbows.

The class participated in an experiment to observe how far a germ can actually travel. They each had a turn using a water squirter and glitter water to see how far the germs traveled.

Hopefully we will all stay healthy in kindergarten this year!

Walk-a-thon

Going The Extra Mile

Hats off to the students who went the extra mile to raise money for the Walk-a-thon! These types of efforts speak so loudly as to the character of our students.

Jordyn & Kayleigh had an idea to sell iced tea & bags of pasta at their tag sale this past weekend. Along with some of the proceeds from the sale of their old toys & clothes they donated a portion to the Walk-a-Thon. Great job ladies!

Declan, Keegan, Danny and Brenna spoke at every Mass last Sunday at Holy Name Church at the suggestion of Fr. Mark. Thank you Fr. Mengel and the parishioners  of Holy Name!

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carlson
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Riley
Cheryl Stanley
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Davies
Lawrence Egan

And we pray in a special way for all of our recently departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Please remember to keep Miss Brown in your prayers during this difficult time for her. She will be taking an indefinite medical leave of absence.

Our prayers continue to be with Mr. Rancitelli, who is undergoing treatment for a cancer recurrence. We also ask that you keep Mrs. Rancitelli in your prayers as well. She recently broke both ankles and her wrist in a bad fall. Each week, a different homeroom sends him cards. If your family would like to send a card, please send it to school with your child, clearly marked for Mr. Rancitelli. His family has set up a blog to write about this experience.   Click here  to read the blog.
