TNDC eNEWS SEPTEMBER 2016 EDITION
September marks the transition from summer to fall and brings a renewed energy and focus on business achievements for the last quarter of the year. It is also a fitting time to look back at news highlights of TNDC's business, people and partners from the last several months. We invite you to read our highlights and as always, invite you to   share your feedback .

CEO MESSAGE: A SEASONAL REVIEW
The summer construction and exploration season were busy for TNDC. Although the prolonged drop in commodity prices continued to impact some prospective natural resource projects, encouragingly exploration activities continued on many projects and there have been recent property acquisitions in Tahltan territory. TNDC continues to provide camp and construction services to several projects and is actively pursuing new resource, industrial and civil contracts, marketing our reputation and capabilities. Creation of Tahltan Fibre, which will provide a reliable high-speed communications backbone to support expanded business opportunities in Tahltan territory, is progressing well. Fibre installation on the Iskut extension is scheduled to begin this fall and business planning is underway for expansion across the region. TNDC recently welcomed three new board members to guide us in pursuit of our strategic goals. The fall months will see TNDC continue implementing recent operational changes and pursuing business development initiatives that position us for the pending economic turnaround in the resource sector and diversify our business model.  Read more

TNDC ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD APPOINTMENTS  
TNDC is pleased to announce the appointment of three directors to the TNDC board - Colleen Parker, Feddie Louie and James Dennis. The appointments were made by TNDC's shareholders, the Iskut Band, Tahltan Band and Tahltan Central Government, after a nation-wide search for Tahltan members with the professional skills to advance TNDC's business efforts and strategic goals in the interests of the Tahltan Nation. Colleen is currently general manager for Yukon Lottery Commission and previously worked as a private consultant providing governance and management related services. Feddie Louie, a past TNDC board member and past Iskut band administrator, brings a wealth of governance experience and a strategic community and social wellness perspective. James Dennis, Tahltan Central Government communications officer will bring a youth perspective and support engagement with the Tahltan membershipannual basis. MEET TNDC'S WAREHOUSE OFFICER
Todd Spring shares the role of warehouse manager at TNDC. He's responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of TNDC's warehouse, including managing the inventory of parts and supplies and coordinating shipping and receiving. Todd has been with TNDC since May 2012. He started working in camp as a labourer, then transitioned to the warehouse in April 2014. It's a diverse position. On a given day, Todd responds to emails from shop foreman, mechanics and suppliers, requests quotes from suppliers, orders parts requested by mechanics, creates purchase orders, receives/distributes freight and catalogues inventory. He also prepares freight orders for and delivers parts to the field, as well as sorts through old parts to determine if they are still useful. Read More

WELCOMING THE COMMUNITY TO OUR NEW HOME
Grey skies couldn't dampen spirits when TNDC opened the doors of our newly-renovated headquarters on June 30th for a day of celebration. We welcomed more than 300 Tahltans, members of the Dease Lake community and our business partners for the grand opening of our new administration offices, warehouse and maintenance shop. The expansion almost doubled our space and will support long-term growth. The office houses TNDC's headquarters staff for our corporate, construction, camp services, mechanical and business development divisions while the new warehouse provides dedicated space for shipping, receiving and parts, with expansion of the maintenance shop to service TNDC equipment. Staff moved into the new space in April, but TNDC waited to open the doors until the weather improved. Read more

TNDC'S SUCCESS PROFILED IN RBC REPORT
TNDC's business success over its historic 30-year journey was profiled in the June 2016 edition of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC's) Aboriginal Report. An Award-Winning Entrepreneurial Spirit celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of the Tahltan people, which underpins the core of TNDC, the business arm of the Tahltan Nation, and has driven its growth since inception. This growth has included TNDC's recognition as Community-Owned Business of the Year from the 2015 BC Aboriginal Business Awards and the recently-completed administration offices, warehouse and maintenance shop expansion.  Read more

MEET DARREN WILLIAMS SRS CAMP SERVICES
Darren Williams has a multi-role camp services position - janitor/dining room attendant/cook's helper/dishwasher - with Spatsizi Remote Services (SRS). He's been with SRS for 10 years, the first five working seasonally and the last five on a full-time basis. Darren is currently working at the AltaGas hydroelectric project site camp. It's a varied role that includes cleaning offices, hallways, bathrooms and the weight room, taking out the garbage, cleaning the dining room after meals, assisting with serving meals, helping cooks prepare meals and washing dishes. He works with cooks, housekeepers, management and everyone staying in camp.  Read More

PUSHING THE PEDAL FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Four adventurous TNDC employees donned helmets and took to mountain bikes June 17th to participate in the annual Tour de Telegraph bike ride to raise funds for the Dease Lake Recreation Centre, which is used by Tahltans and other community members. Chris Vance, lowbed driver, Freeman Louie, operations coordinator, Hankin Asp, chief operating officer, and Rhonda Quock-Williams, office manager, represented TNDC. They joined 33 other riders, mostly Tahltans. The challenging 112 km road between Telegraph Creek and Dease Lake is renowned for its beautiful scenery and roller coaster terrain in stretches. It's intended as a fun, non-competitive event to benefit charity, sponsored by industry and local businesses. Riders could ride the entire distance or form teams and ride sections .  Read more
