NEW YORK – Today, in response to Donald Trump’s attack on an African American pastor in Flint, Mich., a noted civil rights leader and Iowa based Reverend launched a new campaign on the
Not Who We Are platform denouncing Trump and the dangerous and divisive rhetoric driving his campaign. The following is an excerpt of the letter started by Dr. Frantz Whitfield, the pastor of Mt Carmel Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa:
“Today, Donald Trump made several disrespectful remarks about Reverend Green-Timmons, after she welcomed him to the Bethel United Methodist Church, in Flint, Michigan...
“As Trump’s remarks veered off course to political attacks, Reverend Green-Timmons reminded him that he was not there to make a political speech, but to talk to her congregation about what Flint has been going through. Afterwards, Donald Trump made several disrespectful remarks depicting Reverend Green-Timmons as a ‘nervous mess.’
“Donald Trump’s comments are disrespectful, his rhetoric is hateful, and his intolerance threatens the fabric of our communities. We denounce his disrespectful comments about Reverend Green-Timmons, and stand together to say that Donald Trump and his indecency and disrespect is Not Who We Are.”
