Haunted Hikes in New Hampshire

Monday, October 3 @ 7:00pm 

Get ready for Halloween with tales of spooky events and haunted places along some of New Hampshire's most scenic hiking trails. Author of "Haunted Hikes in New Hampshire" Marianne O'Connor will be speaking on Monday, October 3rd at 7pm in the Library Lecture Hall. She will feature famous legends such as: Devil's Den in New Durham, Chief Chocorua in Tamworth, Sasquatch of Ossipee, and more!
 


Man the Battlements!

Monday, Oct. 17th @ 7pm

Join us on Monday, October 17th at 7pm for a lively discussion of Medieval European warfare with Prof. David Bachrach of UNH. Most people think of knights in shining armor and giant catapults, but may not realize that the English parliament system grew out of warfare. David has a new book on the subject which he will have for sale called "Warfare in Medieval Europe, 400-1453".

Two Old Friends

Tuesday, October 18th at 7pm
in the Library Lecture Hall

The Friends of the Dover Public Library will present the musical duo "Two Old Friends" consisting of Emery Hutchins and Jim Prendergast on Tuesday, October 18th at 7pm A Two Old Friends performance will give you plaintive ballads and foot stomping shout tunes; soaring instrumental solos, traditional Irish tunes, and story-telling. There is truly something for everyone.
Girls Who Code

20 week club beginning Thursday October 27

Want to work at a tech company?  Get your start with a Girls Who Code Club!
When:  Thursdays beginning Oct. 27 from
3 to 5pm--20 week program
Where:  Dover Public Library
Who:  Kids in grades 6-12
This is a 20 week club-participants must be committed to attending at least 80% of the meetings. Participation is limited to 10 kids. Sign up by Oct. 14 by calling 516-6050 or from the events section of our website at library.dover.nh.gov.   If there is high interest, preference
will be given to Dover cardholders.
Friends of the Library Annual Booksale

Friday, October 28th for cardholders
Saturday, October 29th for the general public

The large annual Friends Book Sale will take place starting on Saturday, October 29th. There is still time to get donations for the sale to the library. We'll accept donations through Monday, Oct. 24th. The sale starts for Dover card holders (remember to bring your library card) on Friday, Oct. 28th and for the general public on Saturday, Oct. 29th during regular library hours. We have thousands of books and other items for sale. Come early for the best selection. The Book sale ends on Nov. 13th.

Volunteers Needed

The Friends of the Library group are looking for volunteers for the upcoming book sale. They are also in need of a Program Chair to plan and schedule 8 programs during the year. Contact the library for more information!

Artist of the Month     
October's Artist of the Month is Carol Despres of Dover.  Her photographs of "Seasons in Dover" are an eclectic blend of people, events, nature and art she has discovered locally in the past 3 years.  Included in the exhibit will be 3 "mystery" images for which viewers can submit guesses of their locations.  A winner for each will be chosen at the close of the exhibit in late October and awarded a $10 prize provided by the photographer.

Monthly Game Night continues on the 3rd Wednesday of the month: October 19th at 6pm . Board game fun for all ages! Snacks will be provided too!

Are you interested in coloring with other adults? We offer adult coloring sessions on Sunday afternoons from 2-4pm.
 
Holiday Closing

The Library will be
closed on Columbus Day Monday, October 10th. Normal hours are in effect for the rest of the holiday weekend.

New Library Card Policy

In addition to free cards for residents, the library offers free library cards to anyone who works in Dover or goes to school (K-12) in Dover. Questions? Speak to someone at the Circulation Desk.

Chimney Repair

The long-awaited repair of the Library's chimney will take place this month. They will be working on the driveway side of the building, which may cause some delays in getting into and out of the parking lot as traffic may be limited to one lane at times.
