Pavilion
We are beginning to see our new pavilion taking shape. Concrete has been poured laying out the base for our new pavilion. Excitement is filling the air as we wait to see the final product. Let's keep our eyes open and watch the progress as it now unfolds over the next couple of months. When we first discussed the pavilion, it was decided that we would sponsor a fundraising project to help with covering the cost of the new pavilion. Information providing specifics on purchasing plates that will be located on a plaque and placed on our new pavilion will be available soon. The plates will be available at $150.00 each and may be purchased in memory of someone, in honor of someone, or sponsoring someone. The purchase period will be October 1 through December 31st after which time the plaque will be purchased with plates and located in an appropriate place and manner. This will be a wonderful way to remember someone and have a lasting memento.
Nominating Committee
It is that time of year again when our nominating committee will begin to meet to discuss Slash's leadership for 2017. If you are contacted by a member of our nominating committee, we hope that you will be willing to be a part of our leadership in continuing the growth of Slash Christian Church in serving our Lord! The members of the Nominating Committee include: Keith Dalton-Chair, Leslie West, Elana Gant, and Ginnie Caudell.

SAVE THE DATE! Why the Star?, our outdoor Christmas drama, will be shared with our community December 2nd, 3rd and 4th, 2016.
Please join us as we prepare the sets and the drama. We need cast members, crew and hospitality crew. A sign-up sheet will be in the rear of the sanctuary soon or contact Dalton Pierce or Leslie West for more information. We also need help preparing the pathways and sets. We'll have another workday on Saturday, October 22 to clear the pathways, pressure wash some sets and general repair. We'll meet at 9 am and work till noon. We'd love to work with you getting ready to share the story of Christ's birth with our community. Dress rehearsal and group photo will take place Sunday, November 27.
Hope to see you all there! Dalton and Leslie

Outreach Opportunities
ACES Food Drive - In conjunction with the CROP WALK this year, we are holding a major non-perishable food drive/hygiene items for ACES. As always the following items are in constant need: beef stew, rice, cereals, canned soups with meat, powdered milk, boxes of macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, toilet tissue, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes. So return your grocery bag to church on October 2nd and help support ACES. There will be a simple soup and salad luncheon following worship on October 2nd for all to attend. We are planning on soup, salad and crackers with beverage.
Habitat for Humanity Faith Build
Habitat for Humanity Faith Build - SIGN UP - It's a day of GREAT fellowship and I know there will be a laugh or two! Habitat for Humanity is currently in the process of building a FAITH BUILD Home for a mother and her son. Numerous churches in our area are pulling together to work with Habitat to build this home hopefully by Christmas. Slash has joined up to support this project by volunteering to help in the building of this home. If you are interested in helping on October 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., please let Cathy Tillman or any member of the Outreach Committee know. We are looking for 12 persons hopefully that day from Slash to participate the entire day. This is a project that requires no special expertise - just a desire to help! Our youth will actually be preparing lunch for another group of volunteers towards the end of October. So be a part of this exciting day!

Edwin Hodges
Ministries
It is time to collect all of our old Sunday School materials. Each year we mail these materials to Edwin L. Hodges Ministries in Alabama. They in turn ship it to third world countries who really want and need our help. They also want bibles and any Christian materials in good condition. Please bring whatever you have to the Loving building, Fellowship class (that's the one with the piano) by
11-30-16. If you have any questions, contact Betty Sue Martin on 804-798-4553.

Glove donations may be placed in the boxes in the Loving and Education Buildings until October 30th. We need lots of gloves! If you have any questions, please contact Betty Sue Martin on 804-798-4553.

Reconciliation Special Offering will be received October 3
As we have watched the Olympics take place, we have seen such diversification in talents from around the world. People from all walks of life have come together to share in similar experiences. As we think about the reconciliation offering, let's remember the efforts to promote healing, relationships and restoration in the whole family of God. Your generous giving to the Reconciliation Ministry is transforming lives and strengthening Christ's witness
in the world that we love one another, even as Christ continues to love us!
Give to the Reconciliation Offering.
