HISTORIC B17 COMING TO ASHEVILLE REGIONAL AIRPORT
OCTOBER 14-16

The B-17 has a remarkable story - one filled with daring missions and personal sacrifice.  You can relive that story aboard the EAA's beautifully restored B-17 Flying Fortress Aluminum Overcast, October 14-16 at Asheville Regional Airport.

The B-17 serves as a tribute to those known as the greatest generation:  the bold men and women who built and served on the heavy bombers in WWII in the 1940s.

MOVING OUR MASTER PLAN FORWARD
PARKING GARAGE CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN IN OCTOBER

The next time you visit the airport and pull into the parking lot, you will see a construction zone.  We break ground on the new five-story, 1,300-space parking garage on October 3.

The parking garage, part of the airport's master plan, will take one year to complete, and will serve passenger needs for years to come.

So, where will passengers park during the next year?  We will have plenty of convenient parking available:
  1. We will have more than 1,000 spaces remaining in the main parking lots in front of the terminal.
  2. We also have a "credit card-only" lot just past the terminal, down the hill and on the right (watch for orange signs).
  3. Last, we have constructed a temporary gravel lot directly across the street from the main entrance.  This lot has approximately 200 spaces, and will be a "pre-paid" lot in which you pay the attendant upon arrival for the number of days you plan to travel.  The cost will only be $6 per day, and a shuttle to and from the front door of the terminal will operate around-the-clock.

BLUE RIDGE HONOR FLIGHT
WE WERE "HONORED" TO BE PART OF THIS GREAT EVENT!
Blue Ridge Honor Flight took off Saturday morning, September 24, carrying more than 100 Korean War and WWII veterans to Washington, D.C., where they were honored for their service to our country.

This was the tenth anniversary of the very first Honor Flight in the United States, which took off from Asheville Regional Airport all those years ago.  See how veterans were welcomed home to AVL by clicking on the video below.

Interested in the next Blue Ridge Honor Flight, coming spring 2017?

WHAT IS TURBULENCE?
THE PHYSICS BEHIND ROUGH AIR
*Ding* "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We just turned on the fasten seatbelt sign due to reports of some choppy air ahead. We should have it back off in about 20 minutes." If you've flown, you can bet your bottom-dollar you've encountered at least some level of turbulence. While turbulence does make some people uneasy, understanding what causes that rough air can help take the edge off.

Turbulence is defined as the unsteady movement of air (or water)...
