Iowa State University launched the public phase of its new campaign, Forever True, For Iowa State, on Friday. The campaign will serve as the university's most ambitious and historic comprehensive fundraising effort ever - not only for its goal of $1.1 billion by June 30, 2020, but for the vision set forth for the future of Iowa State.
With lagging state funding, the campaign will be even more important in advancing the university enterprise. It's an effort that broadly mobilizes every college, unit, and department to focus on the overall advancement of the institution.
Iowa State strives to be recognized as a model for transforming the land-grant mission to meet the challenges of the 21st century and develop students who will make a difference in the world.
By 2050 the earth's population will grow by 2 billion people, doubling the population since 1980. Global hunger, spread of diseases, and depletion of resources will pose problems for the well-being of people and economies around the world. Only 34 years away, these complex issues will require innovative solutions that draw from multiple disciplines - the university must start working now to uncover breakthroughs that cultivate timely solutions.
Iowa State already has a reputation for "science with practice." The university must continue to provide the talent, partnerships, and infrastructure that will facilitate new discoveries, create new opportunities, and magnify Iowa State's impact.
The
campaign features three aspirations that will drive the university forward:
Aspiration 1: Ensure access to an exceptional student experience that offers practical, global, and leadership opportunities that shape well-rounded citizens and informed critical thinkers.
Aspiration 2: Advance Iowa State as a leader in addressing global challenges affecting food, water, energy, health, security, and environment.
Aspiration 3: Accelerate Iowa State's contributions to society by extending its expertise, knowledge, and values to improve quality of life.
To help make Iowa State the premier land-grant university of the future, the entire university community is needed to support the students, faculty, staff, programming, facilities, and initiatives that are key to Iowa State's success.
Realizing the vision for Iowa State will mean a safer, healthier, more prosperous, and more sustainable world for all.
