NO BULL CHALLENGE Youth Video Contest
Students ages 13-23 enter original short videos that inspire change on important issues like:
- Bullying
- Violence
- Drug/Alcohol Abuse
- LGBT
- Inequality
- Internet & Gaming Addiction
- Obesity
The contest launches on October 10, 2016 and entries are accepted through February 23, 2017. Winners are announced in April 2017. Find out more here!

"Our Family" has been shown at elementary schools with great success and has received great reviews. Educators love the way the film encourages students to share about their families. For the children, the film builds acceptance of their own families and other's families at school.

October is Bullying Prevention Month. Not In Our School is excited to present our first:
For each day of the month we will launch a new short film about standing up to bullying and intolerance.
The festival includes a range of films that showcase the incredible energy and enthusiasm of young people taking a stand against bullying, anti-gay bigotry, and all forms of hate. Some films are NIOT originals, while others are made by youth speaking out in a wide variety of creative ways.
Each week the films will be centered around the following themes:
Week 1: Bullying Prevention
Week 2: Upstanders
Week 3: Diversity
Week 4: Student Leadership
Join us each day in October on the NIOS Facebook page to watch, discuss, and share with your friends.
On another note, we are in the midst of a very charged political season. As documented in a new Teaching Tolerance report last spring, teachers are encountering a variety of challenges this election season ranging from bullying and fear among immigrant and Muslim students, to uncivil discourse and behavior in schools and classrooms. Included in this enews are some resources from NIOS partners - Teaching Tolerance and Facing History - to help students counter bias, participate in civic life, and explore controversial topics with civility.

Sneak peek of featured films:

"Keep Your Head Up"
is a film about staying positive in the face of bullying, because there are people out there who have your back! The video combines the voices of youth who took a stand against intolerance and bigotry with an inspiring song by amazing artists from KutRoc Records. We'll let the students in the film explain the rest!

"Break Bullying"
is a cringe-worthy look at a bullying incident that takes place in an office setting. The episode is portrayed by adult actors but is based on a true story of a middle schooler who was bullied. The eye-opening message that bullying is "not acceptable for adults, not acceptable for young people" helps dispel the myth that bullying is just "horseplay."

"Play with Me"
is a music video and converted cover of Sam Smith's "Stay with Me" by a five-year old with a big voice and an even bigger heart. The video is filmed by his parents and includes appearances by his pre-school friends. This video is so heartwarming it's no wonder it has been viewed over 30,000 times!
- "Not On Our Ground" features Steph Curry, Klay Thomson, and their teammates from the Golden State Warriors. The Dubs won't tolerate bullying in their town, or on their ground!

Guide to Eradicating Bullying and Intolerance and Creating Belonging
The new NIOS guide is slated for release this fall! We have taken all we have learned through decades of working with schools, and created a comprehensive program to create identity safe school climates. The guide provides an array of tools to transform schools where students of all backgrounds and identities feel valued and appreciated. Here is an overview of what the guide has to offer:
- Plans to assess campus climate and tools to support a school-wide change towards inclusivity.
- Staff training on identity safety, implicit bias, and addressing bullying and intolerance.
