The AC Forum has launched etc.talks: excellence in thrombosis care ,  a series of of 12-minute videos and accompanying discussion points on practical approaches and treatments of VTE and AFib.

 

Etc.talks stems from research published in the Management of VTE: Clinical Guidance from the AC Forum in the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis earlier this year.

 

The videos are easily accessible from the AC Forum website (acforum.org/etc.htm) and can be viewed at work, at home or on mobile devices. The discussion flyers - with summary points from the videos and discussion questions - can be downloaded from the site (here and here).

The first video,  Managing the DOACs , features David Garcia, MD, University of Washington, discussing direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) which are now the recommended first line of therapy for most patients. 

 

In DOAC Therapy Can Be Reversed!, John Eikelboom, MD, McMaster University, discusses management of bleeding on DOACs, characteristics of reversal agents, and the current status in this evolving pharmaceutical field. 

 

A third video on VTE treatment is planned for the coming months.

AC Forum's Lunch & Learn Webinars are free and open to all healthcare professionals.

AC Forum's biennial conference will bring together top medical professionals to discuss the latest issues in anticoagulation management. Among the 28 experts slated to present are:

• Scott Kaatz, MD, Henry Ford Hospital, whose research focuses on anticoagulation, AFib, peri-procedural anticoagulation and VTE prevention, diagnosis and prevention.

In addition to these speakers, the 3-day symposium  features  a full slate of presentations, small master classes, a "meet the expert" breakfast, poster presentations of original research, and industry exhibitors. The deadline for early bird registration is Dec 15, but the master classes often fill up before then.

AC Forum is now accepting abstracts to be included at the 14th National Conference in LA, April 20-22, 2017. Accepted research will be displayed at poster sessions at the conference and published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis conference proceedings.

The submission deadline is 5:00 pm CST, December 1, 2016.

Healthcare practitioners have an additional tool to educate patients on AFib. AFib 4Ward is a new website designed to encourage conversation about AFib-related stroke. Developed by a coalition of cardiologists and healthcare professionals, the website uses graphics and clear, concise language to explain what AFib is, how it relates to stroke, and various medications that can be used to treat it.
