UUCF Children's Choir (K - 6th grade): Begins this Sunday, October 2, with rehearsals on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sunday during the 9:30 a.m. early Service after the Story for All Ages (Room 124). The Children's Choir will sing the Introit (opening song) on most 2nd Sundays for both services. Children must arrive early (9:00 a.m.) on performance Sundays to warm-up and practice. Got Writers? Skinner House Books announces a call for short, personal stories about how Unitarian Universalism dramatically changed the course of people's lives.  Rev. Meg Riley, Senior Minister of the Church of the Larger Fellowship, has agreed to edit a collection of stories about "how Unitarian Universalism saved my life." Submissions due November 15. UUCF Book Club: will meet Friday, October 14, 7:30 p.m. at Homewood at Crumland Farm, hosted by Fanny Johnsson. We will meet in the private dining room on the main level of the building. This month's book is a novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, The Sympathizer, an espionage novel, set in Vietnam. Pathways to Membership: UUCF 101: Saturday, October 15, 9:00 a.m. Are you considering membership at UUCF?   Join the Membership Committee for a half-day intensive exploration of Unitarian Universalist history and principles, specific information about our own congregation, and discussion of our individual spiritual journeys. Elizabeth Chung, executive director of the Asian American Center of Frederick, will speak in room 113 on the organization's outreach to the Frederick community. Bring a Can of Food to Sunday's Service: We have two bins: the BIG bin is for the Food Bank's year-round collection ( Special need: canned tuna and Chef Boyardee Ravioli, 15 oz. can) and the smaller, orange bin is for: 
Blessings in a Backpack: UUCF is partnering with Kol Ami this year to collect food for Blessings in a Backpack. 1,300 Frederick children in 10 schools are currently receiving weekend bags of supplemental nutrition provided by donations such as yours. Pick up the yellow flier in the Atrium for further information.  WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT FOOD THAT IS ON OUR LIST! Dismantling Racism Team News

Frederick NAACP will hold a reorganization meeting on Saturday, October 1st at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at 629 N. Online Workshop Series offered by White Awake on Bringing Spiritual Tools to Anti-Racist Engagement begins October 6, 7:00 p.m. (online). We'll attend the online sessions on our own and then meet as a group to discuss. Just in time for the Holidays, the first class covers How to Talk to White Friends & Family about Race (October 6th). The other two classes cover Shining a Light on the Cost of Racism on White People and Moving into Action. Enroll for 1, 2 or all 3 classes in the series. Reeb Voting Rights Project: Trip to Raleigh/Durham, NC, October 7 - 9th. UU Congregations (as well as others) are invited to join their next trip. We will partner with the UU Fellowship of Raleigh and Eno River UU Fellowship in Durham to reach out to voters to ensure they are able to participate in the fall election. With all the rapid changes taking place in the North Carolina rules and procedures, talking directly to voters is critical to avoid the kind of misinformation that can reduce turnout and participation. Frederick County Executive Gardner to Host Meetings to Gather Public Input Legislative Town Hall to Follow 'Talk of Town': Thursday, October 6, 6:00 p.m. 'Talk of the Town', followed at 7:00 p.m. Town Hall. Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner invites residents to meet with her during two public outreach sessions on Thursday, Oct. 6, at Winchester Hall. From 6 to 7 p.m., she will hold the next in a series of informal community meetings called the "Talk of the Town." This open-door session allows residents to stop by and ask questions, discuss their ideas for the future, and express any concerns. At 7 p.m., Executive Gardner will begin a Town Hall to gather input on state legislative considerations so that the county can submit a single legislative package to the Frederick County delegation to Annapolis. Both meetings will be held in the first floor hearing room of Winchester Hall, 12 E. Church St., Frederick. The Talk of the Town session will not be televised. The Legislative Town Hall session will be televised live on FCG TV, cable channel 19, and webcast at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/video.
